If true, not necessarily for this disaster. Need to prepare in advance for whatever may occur over the next year or so --- say terrorist attack maybe.
Thinking more about it... I bet bank boxes would be the last thing to be looted. First off, most of the looters aren't sophisticated enough to break into a vault.
Secondly, I don't know what most people put in them, but safe deposit boxes to me are the place to put deeds, social security cards, wills... all paper. Not much value in any of it to a thief looking for stuff to pawn.

Let me make it a little clearer. This is for the New Orleans area. The order was to send them in to NEw Orleans.
Not all of them are over at DU, though they do all belong over there.

Not sure I have been on that thread. I haven't seen anyone defending them other than for necessities. I think they should make an announcement from a helicopter that all looters will be shot and then take a couple out. If that doesn't stop 'em then take more of 'em out.
These jackals are so dumb. Where are they going to plug these TV's in to and what cable signal are they going to steal?
Plus, even if they are able to steal a generator, a tv, a dvd, gasoline, and some DVD's, aren't they going to get bored of watching the same movie over and over and over?

I think you are right. If these idiots can't figure out that a plasma tv is of ZERO value for at least 6 months, then I am confident that probably could not crack the vault save for banging it with their heads.

We don't know that. Looters and people who refused to evacuate have used up precious resources that could have been used to search for victims.

Doubtful on any terror worries, but rather disease, especially the elderly and infirmed, and similar trapped in houses who couldn't make it onto rooftops or attics. The poor survivors' immune systems are in a weakened state from dehydration, lack of food, dysentery, stress, lack of sleep, heat stress.
This is my prayer also. I hope that their estimate is drastically wrong. I never thought I would see this city in this state. I sit here and watch the coverage on TV. Right now I am looking at a hotel where I have stayed many times. It is surrounded by water and the level is up to the second floor. I can't tell you the shock that I feel knowing that New Orleans may never be the same. There were good parts and bad parts, but on an average, it was a beautiful city. I wonder of course about the people left there, but also about all the places and things I have seen and done in the past. The zoo was amazing as was the Aquarium.
There was a beautiful riverwalk and many many beautiful century old buildings. Yes the quarter was sometimes a very scary place, but I always tried to look past the bad to see the beauty in the city.
My prayers are with all of the citizens of New Orleans.
