Notwithstanding continuing rescue and support efforts, the calamity has triggered a rather opportunistic and cynical reaction by opponents of the current U.S. Administration. In an eerie development that echoes the political exploitation of the Indian Ocean tsunami disaster last December, environmental campaigners, Green journalists and European officials are blaming (once again) the U.S. and its people for the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. Instead of supporting the rescue efforts, demagogues are using the human tragedy in a futile attempt to score points. At a time of utter desolation and misfortune, propagandists in high office and parts of the media are abandoning America and its victims for purely political goals. What he said next should endear him to every American:
Europeans in particular, who have been rescued and liberated from themselves by the U.S. no less than three times in the course of the 20th century, should feel ashamed for kicking a friend and ally when he is down. Let me re-assure our American friends and colleagues that this pitiless mind-set of environmental activists is not representative for the vast majority of Europeans who are following the heartbreaking events with great concern and empathy.Nobody could have said it better. I hope Germanys environmental minister Jürgen Trittin was listening. He blames George Bush for hurricane Katrina despite the fact that that statistics don't show a particularly increase in the frequency of hurricanes in the U.S. in the last decades.
Morning friend. I'm just passing through.
OF course not. It was Karl Rove! 8^)
I like GW and think he is by far many times better than Kerry, but he is failing to be a leader.
He has allowed himself to look like he is hiding from Cindy and now he flys over the hurricane damage in AF 1, A leader must appear to be leading and you do that by being on the scene. He should have been doing a helicopter fly-over with Governor Blanco and Governor Barbour. He should have lander at the Superdome and hugged some of the suvivors and promised aid from the Feds.
I know this is all for TV but that is whjat a real leader must do to instill confidence.
I can only think of the superb performance by Guliani after 911 and even GW's own performance at ground zero.
Boy are you going to get flamed ....... although I feel you are mostly correct.
I feel your pain. Now get back to work.
You would think good conservatives would know the difference between style and substance.
Cindy who?
Jews... </Limbaugh>

Upon returning to Washington, Congress should immediately repeal the just-passed transportation bill and reexamine our priorities in light of the devastating damage done to the region by Hurricane Katrina.

When I can run again, I'll gladly sing that cadence.

Michael Reagan has been on a tear lately. Writing has definetly improved.
I can only think of the superb performance by Guliani after 911 and even GW's own performance at ground zero.
Giuliani's "superb performance" after 9/11 began long after the danger was over. He damn near lost his life that day by showing up at the fire/police command center before the buildings fell, and wasn't looking like much of a leader when he and his entourage had to flee away from Lower Manhattan on foot like everyone else.
The chaos and disorder in New Orleans has only just begun.
Where's Bono?
The MSM loves him so much (/sarcasm) that he's in a position where he's damned if does and/or damn if he doesn't.
I agree with you about the president's need for somewhat better PR about Katrina, but not about She-ham. The she-ham had her moment with the president and at the time, she sounded grateful. If I were him, I would meet with Casey's actual family instead. If what I've read here is true, the She-ham wasn't as involved in Casey's life as she makes out.
I know there is little Bush could actually do about Katrina, but the sheep on the Left are able to sully his actions with their own opinions as long as he remains out of the spotlight.
Well than you should read another thread and (barf) they believe over on another thread that there isn't enough news coverage of this event because the people who cover the news are all "elites" and that they felt that the coverage of 911 was more than the southern poor (as in on welfare) people are getting because they are southerners.
They also beleive that when a southerner dies its much more important than when a northerner dies BUT the elite dont care. I sat and read this and thought I have just entered the effing twilight zone.
This thread's article read that IF this happened in California that the news channels would have more coverage.
HELLO EVERY Friggin cable news channel is covering it wall to wall 24 hours a day!!!!!
This, as was 911 was a national news event people from all over America are wanting to donate to help. Americans in general whether north, south, east or west, pull together to help a fellow American.
I agree. It's a job best left to the local officials first with Federal support offered. The National Guard should be mobilized with Federal help available. There's a time for the PR battle, but the president showing up in the middle of a crisis just adds to the chaos and confusion while taking resources away from where they're actually needed. And NO amount of PR is going to change the Dims opinions; nothing he can do about that, nor should he try.
C. Rice & G Bush just forced Israelis from Gush Katif and we don't expect to cursed?
I will bless them who bless Israel and I will curse them that curse Israel.

"I know there is little Bush could actually do about Katrina, but the sheep on the Left are able to sully his actions with their own opinions as long as he remains out of the spotlight."
I wonder, what it would be like, to have a job as important as the Pres. and to get crapped on for everything I did or said.
Bush came to florida 4 times last year --for each hurricane. I'm sure when the waters subside and people are able to locate their loved ones, and mayhem subsides--Bush will visit the gulf area too. It's still flooding and people are panicking....what is Bush supposed to do? Have people beg him to find their loved ones? It's kaos there.....they'd kill him!
cindy the "man" sheehan doesn't deserve to meet bush for left wing propaganda.......that's what those idiot's want...
Rove did it.
How come it is never the Nebraskans? We really rule the world behind a wall of corn you know. /sarcasm
Think for a minute of the resources that are deployed when the President makes an appearance anywhere....Secret Service, police, military, etc....and this is when everything is hunky-dory and there are no gangs running around with guns....Bush would likely just as soon show up without all that protection but it simply doesn't work that way....
Thank you for pointing that out. I really cannot comprehend why anyone is more concerned with PR spin then doing what is necessary to maximize recovery and relief.

There was a hurricane just as bad as Katrina in the Gulf 25 years ago. Bad dude by the name of Allen. Happened about the same time as well.
I was in Houston at the time. Went to bed thinking Allen was coming right at us. Thought I'd spend the next couple weeks helping my parents deal with a damaged house instead of going off to college.
Woke up and the sun was shining. The storm had veered to the west and stalled off Brownsville. It sat there long enough to wind down to a Cat 2 and also for its surge to settle down - and then it went ashore along the most sparsely-populated section of the Texas coast.
The difference between the two storms was not global warming. They both got just as strong and just as large (Allen was probably larger and would have been even worse if it had come directly at Houston). The difference was pure luck.
But these liberal asswipes don't care about doing a bit of research. They are so eager to attack Bush for anything that they are unwilling to look at historical perspectives or science. And if you point out the lack of science or history in their views, they have the nerve to say that YOU are anti-science.
This story is not true. Surrender-woman was supposed to appear one night on O'Rielly's show but she cancelled out and he replaced her with another woman who also had a son die in Iraq. Since then the two women have been over and over confused both here on FR and other places. Casey was raised by his female parent and his dad.
I dont think the Secret Service would let the President near the Superdome.
I'm still confused. Cindy the She-ham did raise Casey the hero?
Certainly not, given the presence of armed thugs there. It would be insanity for W to show up any place where law and order has not yet been restored.
Sorry to confuse you.I've just got to the point where I can't even call this woman a mother--to me she has become only a female parent and I'm even thinking the word "parent" is inappropriate. But yes I was referring to CS.
