Your production and consumption numbers are fascinating --I couldn't help but notice how they compared to the numbers on proven reserves.

I do see a close comparison between the graph of production that I posted and the graph of proven reserves that you posted. They both peaked around 1970. In any case, I haven't looked at energy much beyond the that graph so I don't have much else to add. Thanks for your additional graphs and comments though.

Just in case, I still have a fourth of my portfolio in oil, but I'm ready to dump even that on a moment's notice.

I think that energy represents just under 10 percent of the Wilshire 5000 currently. Hence, you really are hedging your bets! In any case, I have gained much more appreciation for diversification since the crash.
