I don't know about you (I have an idea) but I'm sick and tired of the MSM burying good news!

I see Americans helping Americans. I hear stories and see photos that inspire me! I thank God I live in America.

Brett Coomer / Chronicle A paramedic carries a pair of girls away from an Army helicopter after they were airlifted from their flooded home in New Orleans on Tuesday.

More Chronicle PHOTOS

I just listened to the local D.C. radio news and they played a woman screaming about no showers in the Astrodome. No this, no that, no nothing (I hear different). Then they quoted Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich making snide remarks about the progress of relief efforts.

Melissa Phillip / Chronicle Volunteer Heather Carson holds her son Joel Carson, 10 months, while she sorts through donated items. She and other volunteers at the Westlake Fire Department organized donated items for refugees from Hurricane Katrina. Three families of around 70 people stayed at the Westlake Volunteer Fire Department on Saums Road near Katy. Residents of the community converged on the fire station to bring supplies and offer support.

Americans are doing for each other but what is reported?

Negative, negative, negative.

Depress. Depress. Depress.

Bash Bush. Bash Bush. Bash Bush! Bash America.

Never, ever uplift and encourage or praise! That's the MSM I know and despise!

There are so many GOOD things going on by agencies and citizens. But NO, they won't report those things.

Keep up the good work FReepers. Report what Americans have been doing and will continue to do to help the survivors of Katrina.

All they want is the bad news so people will keep watching.

This is what should gladly be pointed towards here. But the negative gets all the play.

How to Help Locally (Houston)

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED*** Harris County Citizen Corps- Astrodome shelter for disaster refugees: Persons wanting to volunteer in direct service to help the Katrina disaster victims who have arrived in Houston should go to the McNee Street parking lot just north of Reliant Stadium, between Kirby and Fannin.. (They should use the “West Entrance”, so called because it is on the west side of Reliant Center). If met by a guard, volunteers should identify themselves as being with Harris County Citizen Corps.Volunteers should come to the 2nd floor of Reliant Center and ask for the volunteer coordinator. About 300-500 volunteers will be needed on the scene at all times around the clock.

Volunteers should be able-bodied individuals who can walk 3 flights of stairs. Shifts last 4 to 8 hours, and standard shift times are as follows:

Shift One: 6a.m. to 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Shift Two: 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Shift Three: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Volunteers must be 18 or older. When you check in let them know if there are additional shifts and days you can volunteer. It’s recommended that volunteers wear comfortable shoes, bring a bottle of water, and avoid taking their purses. [More at LINK]

I grew sick of it about 25 years ago. If it bleeds it leads has always been their mantra, gets the ratings but none from me.

Well which threads get the most posts here? You know which ones and it's not the ones of people helping people.

Looting leads.

Shooting leads.

But the thousands of kindnesses and sacrifices go on the cutting floor.

They will scream about how many die but not the number saved.

I agree with you..there are tens of thousands of random acts of kindness being committed but they won't make the news..not on your life would the MSM paint something that isn't anti-Bush..

Based on video from inside the Astrodome and a refugee center in Baton Rouge, most of the refugees appear to be black. Most of the volunteers appear to be white.

Racist garbage like Elijah Cummings and Randall Robinson should be ignored.

But how many would be in the MSM if a Clinton or a Gore or a Kerry were in office?

LOL...I don't have enough fingers, toes and other body appendages to count the good stories that the MSM would be running..

Current story:
Pres. Bush on TUESDAY ordered massive supplies to be delivered to Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, but the ships only travel at 23 knots. Assistance won't be received for another 4 days. WHY weren't these supplies onsite at the location they'd be needed?

Clinton story:
Pres. Clinton on TUESDAY ordered massive supplies to be delivered to Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. We encourage people in those regions to please be patient. Supplies will arive in 4 days, but the speed of the ships limits their ability to get there faster. It would have been impossible to have these supplies onsite during the hurricane as they'd have been ruined in the flooding.

This is what the MSM likes to massage:

***....As the night wore on, people started warming up. Folks gathered around brownies and pie. Those who just couldn't find their words sat in front of a huge TV and watched endless reports of flooding and looting.

Soon they were shouting at the looters on the screen, "Animals! Shoot them!"

Right then, the deep divide in New Orleans — the split between black and white Americans, the haves and the have-nots, the blue collars, the white collars and the no collars — were painfully clear.....***

Okay - I'm here in Demopolis Alabama with my Daughter and Mother. Thank God I got them both out of New Orleans before Katrina hit.

We had lunch today at a Mexican Restaurant. We finished our meal and I got ready to pay...

The owner came up, said the meal was paid for by a group of people I never met, nor were they around to thank!

Believe me its the small things that count. I almost lost it - over this simple act of kindness!

If you don't mind giving the name of that restaurant, I'm sure the FReepers would love to let them know how much we appreciate this random act of kindness...:)
