His laissez faire approach to looting allowed the looters to become increasingly armed and violent, interrupting rescue and recovery operations.

You elect a scumbag, you get scumbag behavior and performance. There are no free lunches. The voters of N.O. should look a bit closer AT WHAT they put into the mayor's office.

Hmmm...this seems like a rather odd usage of the phrase...

Ain't that the truth!

He's a lowdown liberal who now lashes out at others trying to pick up the pieces. He made a colossal mess of things. God only knows how many died because of his arrogant stupidity.

Oops. Sorry, I thought this was an MSM story. For a moment there I was hopeful.

This will be buried in about two hours won't get much play cause it doesn't fit in with the MSM and FNC view of the NOLA failure to act.

Don't ever ever ever ever put a RAT in charge of ANYTHING! They'll swear to it too!

Where are the buses of the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority?

The buses appear to be school buses, not part of the RTA system.

They obviously should have been made available, but when dissing your opponent, being factual is important.

Oh yeah. The same Nagin who quietly slipped about 400 residents of the Ritz Carlton past the lowly sick and starving peons who've been awaiting transportation to safety for five days.

Yet they'll reelect him. You see, he has the GOLDEN D after his name!

They're all blaming Bush. It makes me sick that they're sooo ignorant!

Greta interviewed a kid who stole a working school bus, stuffed it with 80 suffering people--the old, infirm--and drove them to the Houston Astrodome. He'd never driven before.

In addition to the city's transit and school buses, they also had access to the city's fleet of cars, vans, and trucks that are used by their various departments. First response starts at the local level and that means Nagin.

Nagin, like most urban "leaders", are in way over their heads. Of course it doesn't show until something like this happens.

I just got off the phone with a person in N.O. and she said before they storm they were driving around on buses with megaphones telling people to get on the buses and most did not.
But they did not "force" anybody to leave and they took "NO" for an answer.

"I don't want to see anybody do anymore goddamn press conferences. Put a moratorium on press conferences. Don't do another press conference until the resources are in this city. And then come down to this city and stand with us when there are military trucks and troops that we can't even count.
Don't tell me 40,000 people are coming here. They're not here. It's too doggone late. Now get off your asses and do something, and let's fix the biggest goddamn crisis in the history of this country"

Nagin's failure, like his predecessors, was not having a plan. The city and county MUST practice, practice, practice disaster plans in order to be effective.

Nagin couldn't help the fact he didn't have the resources to deal with a disaster of this magnitude. That's where Blanco failed, in addition to the fact she had absolutely NO plan, NO judgment and NO clue. She needs to go back to doing lessons plans and yard duty.

That picture shows about 200 buses --- at 55 passengers per bus --- if the buses only made ONE trip to the nearest safe town (100 miles) there would have been over 11,000 people safer - and alive!

The average metro bus I believe holds at least 40 passengers --- times 400 buses = At least an additional 16,000 People would have been saved!

A 200 mile round trip on the long side would take 5 hours. If they only used ONE DAY - this typical liberal democrat mayor could have evacuated at least 135,000 poor and needy and infirm citizens of New Orleans.
