Good grief!

The "delay" is because the governor and mayor did NOTHING!

Counsel. Am I right about this:

Each GOVERNOR commands each states NG -- particularly for disaster and riot response.

The President only commands the NG when the units are FEDERALIZED and federalized NG units legally have no business keeping order within the state.

When this is investigated we will find this investigation similar to the 911 commission. Democrats will be appointed to the commission to whitewash any Demorat involvement . The bulk of the blame must fall on the Governments of New Orleans and Lousianna and that simply will not fly in washington.

In addition to Guard help, the federal government could have activated, but did not, a major air support plan under a pre-existing contract with airlines.

Did I miss the story about all the men and material that we had staged, but could move due to lack of airlift?

I didn't think so. No need to activate the CRAF.

Federal and National Guard forces from other States can not deploy until the State Governor (in this case Louisiana) formally requests them.

With many states' Guard units depleted by deployments to Iraq, Katrina's aftermath was almost certain from the beginning to require help from faraway states.

BS

Oh yes, let's start a civilian airlift before the airports have been inspected for storm damage. What kind of morons are the J schools producing these days.

Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., said the situation has shown major breakdowns in the nation's emergency response capabilities. "There must be some accountability in this process after the crisis is addressed," he said.

I was wondering when Hagel would crawl out of his slime pit.

Hmmm. The Dems may not want to 'GO THERE'. They might not like what they find at the end of that road.

Loiusiana has national guard units, but they seem to be conspicuously absent.

In playing the blame game, why don't we first look at why the LA Gov did not activate her own troops and position them in place BEFORE the storm?

And then there are the demanding ungrateful b@stards who don't appreciate what is being done for them.

Is this the same Congress that came back from vacation a full day and a half after President Bush?

There's a similar thread over at DU, the Superdome of Democrat Thought (yes, I've been trolling)

Question. Why didn't we have the NG mobilized before the hurricane?

Of course over there, it's all Bush's fault, and it's not fair to blame the governor, because she's like a Mother who has lost a child.

"You know, her state was just devastated. WHY are you blaming her?

It's like blaming an injured accident victim for not getting up and walking away from a crash - or better yet, like blaming an injured accident victim from not assisting others involved in the crash.

I think I'll call it the "Sheehan Defense".

(Can you find my posts on the DU thread?)

There was no centralized national focus, a focus with the intensity to match the intensity of the storm, to sweep away all the bureacratic BS. One does not have time for that when you have 72 hours to act.

Congress, while you're at it, probe the corruption in Nawlins that led the levees and pump systems to be less than they should have been.

Looks like somebody ought to get their act together. Congress apparently doesn't know how things work outside the Beltway. Or even inside their 10X10 mile compound.
