First of all, I am not "you people"...
And if Nagin was intent on evacuating the city, why didn't he use the school buses to get the poor people out? And if he's not a coward, why did he high-tail it out of a city that he was responsible for?
"Voluntary" evacuation in the face of such incredible, imminent danger is not going to cut it with me. It should have been mandatory.
Take your argument elsewhere. My thinking is too logical to accept excuses and justifications for someone elses' weaknesses.

Troll, when will you learn?
"As for the buses, some of them were used to take people to the Superdome."
Funny.. then explain this:
http://home.mchsi.com/%7Eidkfa/bus2.jpg
http://home.mchsi.com/%7Eidkfa/bus1.jpg
Take a look at those buses, they're really going anywhere, aren't they!
AND:
Here's the southeast Louisiana evac plan supplement, most recently revised in 2000.
Go to page 13, read paragraph 5. It states:
5. The primary means of hurricane evacuation will be personal vehicles. School and municipal buses, government-owned vehicles and vehicles provided by volunteer agencies may be used to provide transportation for individuals who lack transportation and require assistance in evacuating.
"All that said, I am not saying that Nagin is without fault."
LOL, whatever troll.
"He was being real, all the way to when he started crying."
Oh yeah, tears from a crocodile are real too.
Especially Nagins whine about how the buses he had on hand werew unusable because they didn't have toilets and weren't Greyhounds.

What are you providing by trying to lay blame or disect the events.... it is over hindsight will not help the survivors. Maybe having a discussion of what would help the survivors a bit more?

"The mayor was expressing his frustration at the situation."
By running to Baton Rouge, and then doing nothing but whine.
And by leaving buses rusting in Lake Nagin.

Admittedly, I borrowed the term from martin_fierro.
Dunno who started the term "Lake Nagin" for the pond the buses are sitting in, but I saw Martin use it first.
But.. that is a good one!

Pretty sobering photos...and then there were the city buses he could have used. ANYthing to get the people out of a town that he KNEW was in danger.
"Coward" is about the only word that comes to mind, especially when I saw him foaming at the mouth and blaming Bush. Totally disgusting behavior from a City Father.

It angers me to no end to see those photos of the buses in Lake Nagin sitting in lineup in their neat orderly rows.
There is no excuse for those buses to still be sitting there at all.

John Kerry kept telling us that HE had a plan too. However, he couldn't tell us BEFORE he was elected to the Presidency. Remember that ianity? He STILL hasn't revealed his "plan"........illusion all along like NO's, which cost S500,000.

The word has gotten out that Freepers are doing the same thing to the lying and spinning MSM re Katrina what we did to Blather and Mapes.
We are ferreting out all types of hard data that shows how incompetent the Mayor and Governor were and still are. Also, the public is not buying the MSM spin to blame GW.
They are in full panic at this time and are trying to destroy our threads and documentation with bs like this.
It will not work.

New Orleans Hurricane Evacuation Plan on city website calls for mandatory evacuation to begin 72hrs prior to hurricane arrival. Plan includes use of school and city buses, and other public vehicles to evacuate those without transportation.
Mayor call for evacuation 18 hrs before Hurricane Katrina hit, but only after Hurricane Center and White House pleaded for action.
Why did Mayor not have families of police and other emergency service personnel evacuated to safe locations.
Hard to get people to report and stay on duty when family is in danger.
From my past experience, it takes Guard 48-72 hours to get completely into the action. Why did the LA Gov not have a majority of Guard called up and ready to move out before cat 5 Hurricane Katrina hit.

What help did the President offer LA LAST Saturday? He declared a State of Emergency ... What happened? .... NOTHING ..... Once Pres. Bush had declared the State of Emergency, FEMA began prepositioning water, food, shelter, medicine near the path of the hurricane. Of course it was not in the path of the hurricane, but close by. No one predicted that rescue helicopters and boats would get shot at when they attempted to get into NO.
When the Mayor's early response to the looting was understanding for people who had been oppressed for so long, I feared NO was in for a bad time. This looting and comment came almost as soon as the hurricane had passed through. No one was starving hours after the hurricane passed.

But Bush could not order the governor..it was HER call. Truth be known, Bush saved a lot of lives down there. Now if he had the abosolute power the libs THINK (but do not want) he has...those buses would not be sitting inwater right now...But had he gone in against the governors wishes, he would be called a tyrant..control freak...dangerous...hitler...fill in the blank...

The fact that today people are being helped, that people are being airlifted out, that control is being exerted is proof that the federal level did not fail. It was just that period of time before the federal level could get assembled and on the scene.
Sounds to me like feds were ready to go BEFORE the governor acted...it was waiting on her, not waiting to be assembled...is any wonder the dems don't want to take part in any investigation? Tuff to cover all the BS...then to have the nerve to make our president look like an idiot...grrrrr....just hoping Americans are looking at the FACTS, not what they are being spoon-fed

Mayor Nagin was saying on a tv interview as Cat-5 Katrina was nearing N.O. that his attorneys (city) recommended he NOT call for a mandatory evac due to potential 'liability' issues.
Afterward, the Mayor has been saying he couldn't get any responsive, decision-maker at the govern's office to act/respond/help.
Texas officials say they could not get any responsive, decision-maker at the govern's office for their offers of assistance.
Michigan (IIRC) officials wanting to offer NG support, say they could not get any responsive, decision-maker at the govern's office.
More and more it is seeming that the 'problem' was with the governor's office. FEDs needed the governor's OK because the governor is the state executive. Locals needed the governor's OK because much of the assistance has to come/be initiated by the state executive.

I don't, off hand. It started during the Live Thread that Monday as Katrina approached.
You might do an FR search on 'timeline'. There were several timeline threads that might have the info you need.
[FR severely lacks the capability to go back and find information.]
