Ken Schram Commentary: It's About People, Not Politics
KOMO TV ^ | September 2, 2005 | ken shram

SEATTLE - I'll be blunt.

I've never had high expectations of President Bush's leadership.

But then I never expected he'd be completely worthless at a time when the country needed him most.

I'm just not up to being polite after so many days of watching the inept, incompetent and insensitive government reaction to the deplorable conditions in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Days of doctors begging for generators and fuel to keep hospital patients alive; days of people abandoned without food and water; days were thugs and criminals were allowed to gain a violent foothold in the midst of chaos and despair; days where the sick lay dying and the dead lay untended.

And what was the initial White House response to concern that there were too many days with too little help?

It was: Don't turn this into something political.

Excuse me?

What a profusely pitiful attitude.

This isn't about politics. It's about people.

And it's about a Bush administration that doesn't know the difference.

It's about a President who doesn't have the ability to lead a nation in a time of crisis and catastrophe.

I honestly didn't think that George Bush could disappoint America more than he already has.

I was wrong.

TOPICS: Government; Miscellaneous; News/Current Events; US: Washington
KEYWORDS: katrina; ken; politics; shram; whining
I think it is hilarious that he is saying don't make it political and then he immediately makes it political. The media is like a pack of dogs. As soon as they think they can make this an issue to beat up Bush they attack.

All of the positive stories will be muted until they have done as much damage to this man that they blindly hate.

Notice how they conveniently skip over every layer of democrat controlled government until they get to a republican.

Their evactuation plan requires 72 hours. they didn't give the orders until about 24 hours ahead of time. So I think you have to cut the feds at least 48 hours of slack. Those people shouldn't have been there.

LIAMD (Liberalism Is A Mental Disorder)

President Bush warned those people before the hurricane. They stayed there because they didn't want to miss their monthly government checks.

Liberals (and their dependents) think the federal government is god. What about the helpless LA governor and the cursing NO mayor who had a hurricane drill simulating Katrina in 2004? What did they do to help? They passed the buck.

Democrats aren't what they used to be. It was Dem. Harry Truman who said, "The buck stops here.".

Thanks...I needed that. Somebody this morning termed the LA "Governot" an "estrogen bomb", the Mayor is a waste of time.
I suppose if my trash does not get picked up I need to call President Bush.

It is amazing to me how most of those in the MSM have blasted our President, skipping over those who were supposed to be responsible for their citizens. The Mayor of New Orleans....talk about someone who does not know how to take care of HIS City. The Governor, what does she think her job is, to find someone to do hers?

But the MSM who where ALREADY THERE. How many of the networks had their people interviewing rather than assisting. At a time when they could have been helping, they were more concerned with showing how inept the local and state governments were and blaming President Bush instead.

It's an awful shame how they have portrayed our country to the World.

Thank God for those who risked their lives inspite of the complete lack of respect for them.

Kenny "The Commie" Schram doesn't say exactly what it was that HE did to ease the suffering of the looters, murderers and rapists in Nawlins. The Commie Leftists are working hard to insure that none of them ever are legitimately elected again. They'll all have to be Chrissy Gregoires and demand "recounts" until they can slip enough enough "votes" to win.

Makes one wonder why elections are held in each of the states for gov, mayor etc. The Pres of the US is now tasked with taking over any state that has a Katrina type catastrophe? Had he known that, Pres Bush would have had the NO citizens evacuated himself instead of telling Blanco and the NO mayor to do so. The RATS just keep making up new rules to feed their slimy hate machine.

The left's rants started Monday with Bobby (I just never measured up to my uncle and father) Kennedy and have continued.

They know the Mayor and Governor are criminally culpable.

There's only one person to blame here and that is the incompetent mayor of New Orleans!!The only qualifications he seems to have is a short vocabulary.

At the onset of this disaster, Rush Limbaugh in his infinite wisdom, said the Liberals would only politicize it.

I'm sure no one is surprised.

My e-mail to Mr. Shram:

I read your commentary online.

Have you no sense of irony. You say the president shouldn't make the disaster political and then you criticize him for it, thereby making it political.

But as most liberals you skip over every democrat controlled level of government to attack the first republican you can find. Much of the blame here lies with the mayor and the governor. Those people should have been evacuated. The president personally called the governor and urged her to order the mandatory evacuation of New Orleans. He declared and emergency before the storm hit. So FEMA could start to move aid in the direction of New Orleans. That is leadership.

The mayor left all his school buses parked in a parking lot instead of using them to evacuate pepople. Now they are flooded and useless. That is not leadership. But I wouldn't expect a liberal to be able to recognize the difference.

this stuff is very reminiscent of the early aftermath of the tsunami. It is a spasm of hatred to be endured, but a fuller picture will emerge vindicating the response in large measure. It already seems that most of the people interviewed, once they get out, are so relieved that they express only gratitude.

Do we live in a freaking kingdom where there are no other leaders responsible for cities, counties, and states?....

If Pres Bush had not literally begged the mayors and governors they would not have bothered to evacuate anyone...they would have done nothing in advance..

Many lives that were spared were thanks to Pres Bush's actions
and many that are now alive owe their lives to his being on the job

I cannot imagine Hillary's response to such things...

Of course the press will always cover for her and her ilk.. so no matter
how many people were really killed by libs in this disaster
guaranteed they will try to blame Republicans..

The murders, rapes, assaults on rescuers, siege attacks on hospitals their staff, nursing homes, the hijacking of ambulances, attacks on police and firefighters....

What other group of disaster victims in the history of America has EVER acted like this while awaiting rescue?...

The looters come out from under their rocks BEFORE the flood.

They stayed in town for that specific purpose. Had the gun shops in their sites and the rest is history.

NO was doomed by the incompetence of it's elected officials.

As for the dem spin. WHO CARES,by now everyone knows the left is insane with hatred.

'The president personally called the governor and urged her to order the mandatory evacuation of New Orleans. He declared and emergency before the storm hit.'

More than likely blinded by seething partisan hatred, I'm willing to bet Governor Blanco thought President Bush was lying, just as she and others on the Left believe he had 'lied' about WMD in Iraq.

Great call. He doth protest too much.
Just another hyper critical arm-chair first responder hypocritally analyzing an ongoing disaster in midstream
while it is still playing out.
All the while, under the delusion that the President of the United States should be out there in the flood with a bull horn and a complete detailed choreographed and scripted plan on every whim of man and Mother nature.

because of a Cat 5 Hurricane is expected.

If that doesn't shut up the DEMS, nothing will !!

President Bush saved millions of lives by telling the other Governors to evacuate their people, which they did. Only Blanco had to be begged to do so a few days short so maybe this slimebucket ought to look to his own damn people LIKE Blanco and Nagin that represent what happens when a Democrat is expected to lead in anything but partisan attacks.

Ken shram is a commentator on local Seattle TV news. He can be counted on to give the liberal democrat response to almost any event. Occasionally he will shock you with a reasonable opinion.

The picture of the buses has been posted on FR dozens of times since yesterday and I would have to go back to get the link. funny thing is I was watching Fox news and there was a helicopter shot of the superdome and they panned up and there were the buses. At that point I about came out of my chair. I immediately knew what that meant. they didn't even think to move the buses to high gournd, let alone evacuate people.

Maybe someone can post the picture of the buses. this post really isn't complete without it.

How many people died because the buses were not deployed? Criminal negligence. The photo will come back to haunt the mayor. It is a powerful statement.

The only response to this from libs is "there was no place to take them anyway".

I guess the guy is right. Bush should have immediately realized how incompetent the black thug mayor was and shouldered him aside.

The neocommie, anti-Americans will use this to hammer at W. There is nothing that W can do that won't drive this kind of political abuse and we should stop trying to placate these scumbags.

Blacks will continue to vote 95% for the crapweasel dems, so why bother to cater to them. The media will ALWAYS blame America first. These people are about polarization and nothing else. There is NOTHING that Bush can do well or right as far as these scumbags are concerned; ket's stop worrying about them and move on!!

Schram is a liberal commentator for ABC tv and rado affiliate, KOMO, in Seattle. His only importance is that someone at KOMO decided to let him talk into a mike connected to their big broadcast antenna. Beyond that, he is an entirely unremarkable but typical liberal media disfunctionary.
