"Many officers lost their homes or their families and there are many we have not heard from. Some officers could not handle the pressure and left. I don't know if we have 800 or thousands today." STFU! The truth will emerge about the state and local debacle that this was.

What's wrong with these guys. They should be out looting on their down time. No wait, it's while on duty isn't it?
To: HAL9000
What a complete moron. This is why N.O. is such a disaster area today. This idiot does NOT even understand how the emergency system HE is suppose to be a vital cog of works. The Guard is UNDER STATE GOVERMENT command. It has NOTHING to do with the "Feds" when it was sent into NO. Couldn't be they played cards because the New Orleans Police had totally lost control of the streets and their was nothing UNARMED National Guards troops COULD do about it.

Wow! That's quite a statement from a police official who has watched over New Orleans (crime rate 10 time the national average). I saw pictures of his police force looting... I wonder if he had anything to say about that?

"A top New Orleans police officer..."
And that's not saying much.

The French just love this stuff.I bet they do...it's their fault New Orleans is almost in a swamp in the first place. LOL

Excuse me but.....isn't the National Guard a STATE function??? Is it because the source of this article (France) doesn't understand the difference?
The way it reads, they are blaming the federal government for Nationanl Guard troops not doing their jobs, and if THAT were so, where was GOv. BLanco? If they WEREN'T doing their jobs, my guess is that the people at the top were at fault. Men go where they are ordered.

"I understand why we are not winning the war in Iraq if this is what we have."
Way to insult our troops you effen ahole! And to read it in a French publication makes it even more infuriating.
""Now get off your asses and let's do something and fix the biggest goddamn crisis in the history of this country," the mayor said in remarks aired on CNN."
Hyperbolize much you freakin dolt.
Just when I think that I can't think any less of this guy something like this comes along....
To: HAL9000
"For 72 hours this police department and the fire department and handful of citizens were alone rescuing people. We have people who died while the National Guard sat and played cards. I understand why we are not winning the war in Iraq if this is what we have." What an ass, didn't he see the Coast Guard choppers pulling people off roofs?

A captain is the last to leave a stricken ship. For my money, he should have stayed in NO until he knew every person was safe. Now the sumb*tch is embarrassed.
Can you imagine Rudy Giuliani spending 9-11 in Poughkeepsie?

This is what I know for sure- we rely upon the men and women in our Police forces, our fire departments and our military to clean up all of the nasty messes our world can make all the while putting their lives on line.
And it is they who get slandered, called names and treated with very little respect.
And I am sick of it.

What an ass, didn't he see the Coast Guard choppers pulling people off roofs? Maybe Riley was in Baton Rouge with the mayor...

The New Orleans police force is perhaps the most corrupt bunch in the United States. Most of them probably high-tailed it out of town at the first sign of an incoming hurricane.
Their first stop was probably a donut shop and the second was the nearest interstate.
