Mary Landrieu: I'll Punch Bush, 'Literally'
NewsMax.com ^ | Sept. 4, 2005 | Carl Limbacher

Posted on 09/04/2005 7:19:18 AM PDT by Carl/NewsMax

Sen. Mary Landrieu threatened the president of the United States with physical violence on Sunday, saying that if he or any other government official criticizes New Orleans police for failing to keep civil order in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina - "I might likely have to punch him - literally."

"If one person criticizes [our sheriffs], or says one more thing, including the president of the United States, he will hear from me - one more word about it after this show airs and I - I might likely have to punch him - literally," Landrieu railed on "ABC's "This Week."

It is illegal to threaten the president with physical violence.

The Louisiana Democrat blasted Bush for neglecting the New Orleans levees, and demanded that he stop using the disaster for "photo-ops."

"The president came here yesterday for a photo-op," Landrieu charged, while surveying the disaster scene via helicopter with "This Week" host George Stephanopoulos in tow. "He got his photo-op but we are never going to get this fixed if he does not send us help now."

Landrieu also blamed Bush for cutting funding for levee improvement, before bursting into tears on camera.

In recent days, Louisiana officials have been criticized for bungling evacuation and rescue efforts. One of those officials, Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu, is Sen. Landrieu's brother.

The president needs to address this TODAY -- DIRECTLY. He needs to come out and lay the blame where it is due, and point out that the facts are the facts, and the attempts to make this humanitarian tragedy into a political game are reprehensible.

A few points, Carl..

How many people could your photo-op helicopter have moved to safety, Mary...5-10, 20...?

A national leader, senator, crying on TV, will reinforce the perception that a female isn't up to the top spot..running the country...and Blanco's total melt-down this week ads to that..Sorry Hillary...

The same ones who were too busy looting to be bothered with keeping civil order?

She sounds like the rest of her constituents, guess they learned well right from the top.

Homeland security is saying that they have the responsibility
to feed clothe educate and house thousands to a million people without disrupting the lives of others. Tooo late.

Honest analysis of what we an learn from Katrina is very important. However, political yakking and finger-pointing are counter-productive, and any politician who attempts to take political advantage of this should be thrown out of office fast.

Correct me if I am wrong, but this wasn't exactly a cut- it was a reduction in the amount that was to be spent in 2006!

I think everyone is pretty well tired of the juvenile antics of the Democrats.

Bobby Kennedy started it with an editorial on August 29.

Gee. You think he wrote it in advance?

Landrieu is Senator of the state. Do you think she should have told the Mayor and the Governor to evacuate the people sooner.

Oh, Mary, Mary...you are JUST as culpable as the police who walked off the job, joined the looters, and just as culpable as the Mayor who should have been in the streets with a police presence and walking the superdome.

The backlash against this type of crass, ugly partisanship is just starting.

Well if your police weren't 'girly girls' then they might stand a chance. They seem to take after you, gutless!

The difference between 9/11 and Katerina is that the first responders in 9/11 died for a cause, what did your 'girly girls' police do: QUIT AND RUN!

Says alot doesn't it?

I have been wondering about the indeciveness of LA officials ala the Governor and the Mayor of NO vs. Mississippi's deciveness and forceful control of the situation.

Could it be there are things these officials don't want the Feds discovering if they start crawling around their backyard?

Incredible. President Bush has shouldered blame that is NOT his and has said not one single devisive word and this MORON gets on TV and continues to slam him.

Louisiana is one of the worst run states in the union, they have squandered federal funds, and they try to lay this at the feet of the federal government.

I just heard this morning that in a city surrounded on 3 sides the city only had 3 boats and 2 of them weren't working!!!!!

She knows that the real blame lands at the feet of the state and local authorities, which are all corrupt democrats, and she is trying to nip that blame in the bud before it starts. The republicans are dumb enough to fall for it. Republican leaders should be out right now countering all the blame by blaming the state and local democrats. If the MSM and the democrats are blaming republicans, it is fair game to go after the local democrats and that is where the blame should go anyway.

they had plenty of money to fix the levees with... but they were to busy building casinos and buying jet planes for the levee board to vacation in to use it for the levees.

And by the way, one of the levees that broke was brand new. And any levee they built would have only been rated for a cat 3 storm not a 5.

"It is illegal to threaten the president with physical violence. The Louisiana Democrat blasted Bush for neglecting the New Orleans levees, and demanded that he stop using the disaster for "photo-ops."

This constant threatening of the president coming from the left during this adminstration is so unprecedented and out of control, these people need to start being charged with crimes or when does it end? Level headed people know the answer to that question.
