Federal bureaucrats who were slow to respond to the flood disaster in New Orleans "murdered" thousands of the city's residents who were left stranded for days without help, Jefferson Parish President Aaron Broussard charged Sunday.
"It's not just [Hurricane] Katrina that caused all these deaths in New Orleans here," an emotional Broussard told NBC's "Meet the Press." "Bureaucracy has committed murder here in the greater New Orleans area, and bureaucracy has to stand trial before Congress now," he insisted.
"Hurricane Katrina will go down as one of the worst abandonments of Americans on American soil ever in U.S. history," the Jefferson Parish official complained. "I am personally asking our bipartisan congressional delegation here in Louisiana to immediately begin congressional hearings to find out just what happened here.
"Why did it happen? Who needs to be fired?," Broussard demanded. "And believe me, they need to be fired right away, because we still have weeks to go in this tragedy."
Broussard hinted that he thought President Bush should be held responsible, saying, "whoever is at the top of this totem pole, that totem pole needs to be chain-sawed off and we've got to start with some new leadership."
"It's so obvious," he said. "FEMA needs more congressional funding. It needs more presidential support . . . FEMA needs to be empowered to do the things it was created to do."
The "head" of this nightmare is Blanco, her incompetence and the New Orleans' mayor are what created a situation where citizen outlaws are murdering.
Here come the lawsuits.
I saw him. So emotional. Guilt will do that to you.
Seems like it's more the Louisiana governor who have blood on her hands.
Broussard est une tete de m*rde! he truly has shi'ite for brains to make such an accusation.
All this screaming by Lousiana officials that "It's All Bush's Fault!" is a transparent attempt at deflection, nothing more. It's not going to wash.
This man needs to start by firing himself.
They way to empower the Federal agencies is to ask them to take authority.
I see a lot of FEMA attacks today. I believe this is due to Blanco's asking James Lee Witt (former FEMA Director) to help her out. Typical that a Clintonite would immediately resort to politics. That's the way this thing's going to go for awhile. Malkin has taken the bait.
The Democrats where worried about Republican efforts to make inroads among black voters. Needless to say, they will take full advantage of this wonderful opportunity to reverse that trend.
I didn't realize Jefferson Parish was a Federal reservation...
In fact, now that I think about it, looking at the overhead shots of Mississippi, the Federal reservations (e.g. Keesler AFB) WERE evacuated. Except for the hospital and hurricane hunter squadron, of course.
"we've got to start with some new leadership" -- sounds just about right, beginning with the local leaders who WERE charged with the health and welfare of their constituents.
Hello to stupid aka Broussard, there are about 1,000 school buses under water in New Orleans, why didn't your left-wing Nazi loving mayor use them to get the looters, er poor out of the city BEFORE the storm hit.
I noticed that most of the looters leaving the city had brand new carrying packs....mmmm makes me wonder where they came from.
They voted for these incompetant crying and cracking up buffoons.
How many churches don't have a bus or two? Why couldn't they have sent in a few buses to pull out members of sister churches? And if there aren't "sister churches" within a faith - why aren't there? Do churches exist for the "bigs" who profit and run them? Do they justify the big bucks they earn by sending money to Africa - and the fun trips that go with it? Why aren't they doing jack for their members?
Or for those they "serve"? If American Christianity can't step up to the plate on this one, they're useless.
It's the same in Florida. Many churches are in non-evacuation areas and they don't even open their doors for their own members.
In an area like St. Petersburg, where most people live in evacuation zones, and who's friends live in evacuation zones, the excess stays home in unsafe areas, or they're pushed into unsafe evacuation centers. The churches, if they took care of their own "flocks" would relive pressure at those centers.
Do churches exists for self glorification only? What do they do with the abundance they are given? How many vacations (ummm, missions) do the bigs get a year and how much help do they offer their own in a crisis?
Just like the Democrats to yell first and loudest to the press. Doesn't matter if there is ever an ounce of truth to what is said...just yell, cry, accuse and point fingers to deflect from the truth.

Kill A Commie For Mommie
Seven Dead Monkeys Page O Tunes
Remember when you point your finger, three more get pointed right back at you.
The guilty had been working on their 'stories' since Katrina made that right-hand turn in the gulf. They KNEW what the outcome would be and it was Landrieu/Blanco/Nagin CYA after that.
Ibeg congress for an investigation. Bring t effen on.
The NO disaster may actually be what is needed longterm to bring Southern poor/blacks further toward the Republican camp, destroying a century of Dem power in the region.
A Freeper quoted Whittaker Chambers today,
"Innocence seldom utters outraged shrieks. Guilt Does."
Nice attack on American Christians. In Texas the faithful are doing a lot but don't let that fact interfere with your screed.
Broussard, you hereby exiled from the Coon@ss nation!
Didn't see it. Was he pointing a bony finger at Russert when he said it? That's a dead giveaway...
He wants Conressional hearings?I hope he gets his wish.Lets see who the real criminals are.Complete with 24/7 coverage by the media.
Fair is fair. I have been critical of Brown and Chertoff on other threads for making some pretty clumsy remarks.
In the chowderheaded statements race, it is becoming obvious that LA local officials are lapping the feds.

First thing that came up on Google when I searched "Aaron Broussard".
Oh, well.
It's ironic because they are claiming Bush is doing this because of the "poor and black democratic" voters, but if their logic were to hold, which it doesn't, Jefferson Parish would be okay since it went 62-38 Bush in 2004.
Start with the local and state officials first.
His plan was to let everyone surf out on the storm surge.
Most of the churches in non-mandatory evacuation areas are not certified to be safe as shelters. Mandatory evacuation is for flood and storm surge, not wind damage. Most older, big churches could not survive the wind damage from a major hurricane. It would be foolish to use them as shelters.
I saw this guy. I thought his tears were about as genuine as Clinton's at the Ron Brown funeral. That being said, it does not diminish the horribleness of the situation there.
The screams of the mayor and the governor are as futile as a cat trying to cover its scat on a tile floor.
Scroll up a bit and see all those buses under water. Why did the mayor not USE those buses to move people out?
That kid who stole one of those buses and saved 70 people (and the bus) has more brains and more guts and more initiative than the mayor.
(normally I don't applaud grand theft auto, but in this case he deserves a medal)
"I saw him. So emotional. Guilt will do that to you."
YEP!
blame, blame, blame,
Blanko blame
Naggin blame
Ned I say anything else?
Is there a picture of this fool?
"The NO disaster may actually be what is needed longterm to bring Southern poor/blacks further toward the Republican camp, destroying a century of Dem power in the region."
"tis a consumption devoutly to be wished.
Some pubbies better start thinking up slogans RIGHT NOW in order to run for Mayor of NO, and maybe Jindal can run again for Guv. The white lady has done fall on her face, and that's the truth.
I guesstimate the photos show about 500 drowned buses (including inside the sheds), which at 50 per could have moved about 25,000 people in one single trip.
Oops.
Ned I say anything else?
Need I say anything else?
Blanko and Naggin mispellings are my own, but I think they fit, don't you?
I sort of figured the title gave that away!
"The court calls the case of the United States versus Clarence Ray Nagin, Jr. et al...."
Blanco, as Governor of Louisiana, is the commander-in-chief of the Louisiana National Guard. She had 30,000 troops to use however she saw fit WITHOUT waiting for the President, FEMA, the mayor or anyone else. They are under her command. If there were not 30,000 troops where they needed to be, then it was her fault.
Also, she did not ask for help from other states until Wednesday. Using that timeline, they were there in full force and effectively taking control on Friday, 2 days later. Pretty darn good.
Nope, you can't forget the criminals with guns shooting at emergency workers!
That's just SOP for them, but they will certainly fight like tigers to prevent any loss of influence, which is all they care about.
