You need to check this thread. Your concern that the letter of Louisiana governor Blanco asking the President for help is good for Blanco is not in its place. Our fellow freepers here have analyzed the letter and it shows how much Blanco underestimated what they need from the Fedreal government in particular on the issue of coordination. Blanco and Nagin wanted to be in charge of the operation and they failed miserably. When the Feds stepped in late on last Wednesday and took control of the operations, everything worked much better since then. It is a failure of leadership among the local and state officials in Louisiana or in the case of Blanco and Nagin, the absolute lack of it.

• Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (OHSEP): Providing generators and support staff for SNS and Public Shelters. Costs estimated to range from $250,000-$500,000 to support (6) Shelter generator operations.

The state of LA has agreed to pay up to $500,000 for generators and support staff to DHS to cover the cost of hurricane relief.

They got what they voted for.

In NOLA the large majority would vote for a ham sandwich if it had a (D) after it. The RAT promises came to naught this time.

She estimated costs at 9 million bucks and that would overwhelm the state? This is unbelievable.

IMHO, her impeachment will be the order of business in the next few sessions of the State Legislature.

"City of New Orleans Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan."

News Max has an article that quotes the NO plan prepared for the emergency. None of the plan was carried out by the state government that wrote it. It even says they're to use the school buses to make sure everyone gets out, but they didn't bother.

In any other state, maybe so. The Times Picayunne which seems to be the "state newspaper" for the Legislature came out raging against Pres Bush today.

They talk now of how congress never allocated the $10 billion to fix the levies. And to be honest...thats not a drop in the bucket. But they could have divided this project into a 12-year project...and gotten $500 million a year...and gotten the state to cough up the remaining amount. The nation will have to cough up $10 billion now...along with another $40 billion to fix New Orleans...and personally, I kinda question handing a city under-sea-level...all that money. It was stupid to build it there and to wait for an emergency to fix it.

I had to dig deep to go back and find this article and if I paste it right (not good at this) then go to the bottom or keep going on down near the bottom to read where Blanco fought the whitehouse Friday night about federal assistancehttp://msnbc.msn.com/id/9189916
