"If anyone is concealing the number of dead, it is Nagin."

He's not concealing it, he just doesn't have a clue. Some people cannot take the lead and organize in a crisis. Nagin has shown that he can't. He can't see the big picture and delegate and command. He is so bogged down and emotional that he can't even process everything that is going on around him. He might as well have gone to the Superdome and waited to be evacuated out as much good as he's been for the city in this crisis.

It makes you feel bad to question someone when they are crying about a death. I really don't even question that some guy's mom died in a nursing home waiting to be evacuated. If he had left it at that it would have just been very disturbing to me. But, logic just dictates that I have to question this account of her death. The main problems are that she drowned on Friday after talking all week on a cellphone with what appears to be never ending battery power. The alternative is that she was in a nursing home that still had electrity and then I could very well see why there was no rush to evacuate it.

I wish there was some way to investigate this. I think it's important to know the truth on this one.

I can't decide which is more tragic.

The 1000's that are potentially dead, or this jack ass pointing the finger, who obviously is responsible for overseeing his parish.

It's amazing how loud dems squeal when they fail miserably in their job.

And the Mayor of NO didn't deploy the busses as his own emergency plan advocated, again, why? Oh, the MSM is not gonna cover that?

I did a little searching and this is what I found -

"In neighboring St. Bernard Parish, Sheriff Jack Stephens said 31 senior citizens died inside the flooded St. Rita's Nursing Home. The president of Jefferson Parish, Aaron Broussard, dissolved into sobs as he described the daily reassurances a colleague gave to his elderly mother that rescuers would reach her in a nursing home in St. Bernard. She drowned Friday."
http://www.newsday.com/news/nationworld/nation/ny-usmain054412664sep05,0,6433008.story?coll=ny-nationalnews-headlines

"At St. Rita's Nursing Home in Chalmette, La., 31 residents were found dead in their beds. Managers had ignored orders to evacuate. Police officer Brad Mason said Sunday that about 6,000 residents were rescued from their homes in the New Orleans suburb. Some of the parish's southernmost towns remain submerged."

Why isn't he pissed at the manager's of the nursing home that ignored orders to evacuate? I also have the feeling that she didn't drown, she just died because they said the people were found in their beds. If they drowned it seemed like they all wouldn't be in their beds. It's such a horrible tragedy. I don't understand how he was that close and he didn't go get her or send someone to go get her.

Sure looks like awful lot of people in LA were getting paid to do little more than keep the chairs warm and make sure the gravy kept coming. "Let the good times roll" works until it doesn't.

The shrillness of the FedBashAgitprop continues to reinforce my belief that the locals are not only guilty as hell of malfeasance (if not worse), they know it... and are terrified that the rest of us may figure it out.

That's the million $$$ question.

Why on earth didn't he go down there and get her himself?

Very, very sad.

Jefferson Parish President Aaron Broussard's frustration and anger boiled over on radio. "Red Cross, where are you?" he asked on WWL-Radio. He directed an open appeal to the governor, federal emergency officials and the president to not overlook his parish. At one point, he declared, "I am announcing that Jefferson Parish has seceded from the United States and is now the country of Jeffersonia," going on to say, "Now I know we will receive the aid a foreign country receives."

Between this guy and the foul remarks of NO Mayor, local Louisiana officials haven't exactly been paragons of steely reserve in the face of disaster.

Agreed. Thanks to Katrina, a huge spotlight will be shone on Louisiana politics, exposing the corruption and incompetence that have been rife for decades.

The more I analyse the more sure I become that the hysterical Rat members of Hate Bush Inc. are openly revealing themselves for what they are. Political looters.

Even Mr. and Mrs. moderate-fence-sitting-know-nothing America can see this plain as day.

I think the numbers of dead in Mississippi will be much higher than released so far. But I don't think it's a conspiracy to conceal anything.

I think [hope] you're onto something. It's not that the Bush administration has handled the situation perfectly. But the Dems just can't help themselves, in this as in other issues, from going totally over the top with their criticism, accusing W of racism, murder, etc. In the end, the Dems hurt themselves politically be demonstrating that they are out of the mainstream and not really ready to govern.

Which reminds me, anyone heard from Howard Dean lately? Wonder how he dealt with hurricanes in Vermont?

It is very sad. I belive it's the same Parrish (Jefferson) that he's from that they're letting folks into today to check their property and get personal items. The water must have receded awfully quickly since Friday or this poor woman was in a different part of the county that flooded more.

Broussard must be talking about all those people who died in their homes because they did not evacuate -- you know, all those poor people who own homes and cars, but were too poor to evacuate.

I saw this crybaby twerp Broussard on Meet the Press yesterday (I think it was).

The guy was obviously performing --I wonder how many times he practiced that crying act in front of the mirror-- but Timmy Russert handled him with kid gloves.

Only slightly tough question Russert asked Broussard was if he had any blame for the N.O. mayor or LA gov.

Broussard fell all over himself praising Governor Blank-0 for her "incredible leadership" !

Of course Timmy didn't follow up with a request for examples of Governor Blank-0's "leadership."

I agree.

I also make this prediction (probably will be wrong, but here goes): Polls within a few days or weeks will reflect more disgust toward the N.O. "evacuees" themselves --for sitting by passively while they let rapists, looters and murderers take over-- than toward any government officials.

Polls this morning (according to the guy who's substituting for Laura Ingraham) show about 2/3 of the public think the federal gov't was too slow to react -- but 3/4 blame the state and local officials more.
