"But perhaps the greatest disappointment stands at the breached 17th Street levee. Touring this critical site yesterday with the President, I saw what I believed to be a real and significant effort to get a handle on a major cause of this catastrophe. Flying over this critical spot again this morning, less than 24 hours later, it became apparent that yesterday we witnessed a hastily prepared stage set for a Presidential photo opportunity; and the desperately needed resources we saw were this morning reduced to a single, lonely piece of equipment. The good and decent people of southeast Louisiana and the Gulf Coast -- black and white, rich and poor, young and old -- deserve far better from their national government.
This blatant LIE in time of national tragedy and amid herculean efforts to repair damaged levees almost rises to the level of an impeachable offense, in my opinion. Senator Landrieu, those repair efforts at the levees were NOT "photo-ops", ...they were an ongoing process, as anyone who watched the news coverage of the choppers dropping sand bags on the breach can attest. The 17th street levee repair was completed, in fact, on Sunday.
Your outrageous behavior and irresponsible comments are unforgivable. The good people of Louisiana deserve better. Enjoy your last term in office.
Dave
I think I read about a Landrieu who is lieutenant Governor (?) of LA. Is that her brother?
This woman, and the one who serves as the Gov of LA, define STUPIDITY. They make me - as a woman - ashamed.
She's got a real legacy when it comes to infrastructure...
Wasn't her daddy's most celebrated contribution to the safety of NOLA the "Moon Walk"...the boardwalk that let tourists see over that pesky levee along the Mississippi river?
90,000 sq miles devastated.
Over here, in this one section of 20-50 yards, Bush and the FEMA have not acted quickly enough. Doesn't matter that Mississippi was destroyed. Bush needs to concern himself 1st and foremost with this area of 20-50 yards.
Some perspective!
Methinks there is going to be one whale of a well-funded challenge to Landrieu that will overwhelm anything we've seen before.
Can somebody grab a screen capture of her web site, so she can't deny it later?
Not Bobby Jindall I hope.
I just sent this to Drudge. Others should do the same.
All the crookedness of earlier Lousiana political dynasties, but none of the ability.
If there was justice in the World, all these Louisiana politicians would lose their jobs, and be forced to do honest work.
Would Senator Landrieu care to explain the incompetence of her Governor? Would she care to explain how other States are capable of handling natural disasters, but not Louisiana? Would she care to give us an accounting of where Federal disaster planning and relief money has been going over the years?
Do you think Senator Landreau is worried that the quarter million democrat-voting refugees now in other states may decide to never call Louisana home again?
Also proves the silly strumpet knows nothing about construction.
Jindal may have saved everyone a fair amount of money/effort that would otherwise have been wasted down the road.
Jindall was bshing Bush this morning on Bill Bennett's show.
The politicos of LA are circling the wagons.
She'd make a great waitress in a greasy spoon diner.
I'd leave her a larger than usual tip.
Yes. The Landrieu family goes way back in LA politics.
THIS IS GETTING MAJOR AIRPLAY OVER SEAS.
I saw this commentary on Greek Sat TV which was translating it from a BBC feed.
This is having the international media in a feeding frenzy. The international "street" does not know from D or R. They only know "hate GW Bush". They then feed this into the GW Bush is stupid mantra and GW Bush is handled.
We are going to see more of this because democrats' own incompetence has removed them from the relief loop. The real leaders are doing, the loosers are talking to the MSM.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 09/03/2005
WASHINGTON -- U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu, D-La., issued the following statement this afternoon regarding her call yesterday for President Bush to appoint a cabinet-level official to oversee Hurricane Katrina relief and recovery efforts within 24 hours. Sen. Landrieu said: "Yesterday, I was hoping President Bush would come away from his tour of the regional devastation triggered by Hurricane Katrina with a new understanding for the magnitude of the suffering and for the abject failures of the current Federal Emergency Management Agency. 24 hours later, the President has yet to answer my call for a cabinet-level official to lead our efforts. Meanwhile, FEMA, now a shell of what it once was, continues to be overwhelmed by the task at hand. "I understand that the U.S. Forest Service had water-tanker aircraft available to help douse the fires raging on our riverfront, but FEMA has yet to accept the aid. When Amtrak offered trains to evacuate significant numbers of victims -- far more efficiently than buses -- FEMA again dragged its feet. Offers of medicine, communications equipment and other desperately needed items continue to flow in, only to be ignored by the agency. "Mr. President, I'm imploring you once again to get a cabinet-level official stood up as soon as possible to get this entire operation moving forward regionwide with all the resources -- military and otherwise -- necessary to relieve the unmitigated suffering and economic damage that is unfolding." Today's aerial tour of the 17th Street levee will be featured tomorrow on ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos. Later, Sen. Landrieu will also appear on CBS's 60 Minutes. |
Where has Landrieu been? She must avoid FOX because you'd wonder if she dropped off the map. Emotional breakdown?
If you go to her website, they have a contact link, which I used to write her an email. She will never see it, but it was cathartic.
Thanks. That sort of explains Mary's idiotic statements. Covering her brother's butt.
So, basically all that is/will be left in LA are those who took some personal responsibility and left, in other words, Republicans.
I sent my letter to her already - as I'm not a LA resident, I doubt she'll even read it, but like you, it was cathartic.
The woman is insufferable.
What needed to come from this disaster was a sober, non-partisan assessment of what worked and what didn't. What needs to be changed in disaster plans around the country. What roles need to be defined and how to better improve coordination between levels of government.
Instead, the Dems apparently are planning on downplaying any lapses by state and local officials in their zeal to pin as much blame as possible on the Bush Administration. Thereby dramatically increasing the chances that little will change.
This was a chance to improve our country. But the Dems will have none of it.
I found this FR thread in regard to the 1996 election of Landrieu for the Senate. The first 5 or 6 very short paragraphs are a MUST read! Now we know how she was elected!
http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/796352/posts
Excellent point. Landrieu could not manage fifty percent of the vote in a race where the Rebublican vote was split three ways. She won a squeaker in the run-off.
A quarter million votes lost is significant in a state where only two million voted in the last presidential.
Everytime I thought of LA my first thought went to Landrieu and how she's one of the culprits of the screwups made by the state and local govts of LA.
Speaking of stage...I think I will go to my local Cheata-3 for a little afternoon delight. Take a few minutes to take a deep breath and get away from the TV.
The plot thickens. Not only is she an incompetent liar, she STOLE the election, apparently.
Good people of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, I PRAY you folks are paying CLOSE attention to the shameless politicization of this tragedy by democrats afflicted with Bush Derangement Syndrome...before the waters have receded and before the bodies have been recovered, these opportunistic VULTURES are scapegoating the president for their own decades-long record of incompetence.
Please keep this in mind in the next election as you select your next state and local politicians.
Dave
Actually, what I hear is that the local authorities in Mississippi are doing a pretty good job considering the resources they have.
In a state of about 5,000,000 people, with some history of very close statewide elections, this hurricane is going to remake the political map in ways we cannot imagine.
Just a few questions immediately coming to mind:
How many people never return? What voting patterns did they take with them?
What about the dead? Of course they have a two-edge question, involving their post-mortem voting patterns.
How do the remaining voters assign blame/ give credit to local, state, and federal politicians? If they have strong belief in credit or blame, does it extend up and down the ticket to others who has nothing to do with anything?
If NO gets back on its feet, but needs to import workers, do they get people from all over or primarily from one place? That could have an effect, too.
Ron, there's been some carping and caterwauling in Ms. and Ala., too, although not nearly as much as in Louisiana. I just hope that Gulf Coast voters will remember any and all those politicians who shamelessly took advantage of the misery of victims from a natural disaster to make political hay, and they cut short their political careers.

They're Stealing the Election [LA]-Did voter fraud swing last year's [1996] closest Senate race?
Reader's Digest | August 1997 | Trevor Armbrister
She and her brother, the mayor of N.O., and the Govenor of Louisiana are all useless twits, answerable to no one, bought and paid for by poltical hacks, and not worth the powder and lead to blow them all to hell! Shame on them, and shame on their lies. We need to keep calling their hand on this B.S., and I hope every freeper lets them know what we think they are full of. They cannot stay out of the sunlight forever, and they need to be exposed for the frauds they are.
But of course, they will still vote in LA in the next several elections, most of them more than once.
Landrieu speaks! Do not mock the will of Landrieu!
I can understand the despair of victims in tragedy like this - I honestly do. And I feel for those who had to wait days for water or food, transportation out, etc. I just think there's a lack of perspective under all the ongoing hysteria over the response by the federal government. Local, city, county, and state authorities are always - ALWAYS - the first responders in any disaster. FEMA will come in to support, but even in the best scenarios, they typically take 48 hours or so. In the worst scenarios, like when a city is submerged under 25 feet of water and roads are impassable, they are going to take longer.
I don't see much reason for the carping and caterwauling. It's clear that the folks in MS and AL got aid quicker for one main reason - they weren't underwater after Katrina...NOLA was. I think too many people live in a fantasy world, perpetrated upon them mostly by liberals, of unrealistic expectations from a government they are led to believe is almost God-like. On his best day, the president can't part flood waters or levitate aid trucks over flooded out roads.
I think under the circumstances and based on the conditions on the ground at the time, the relief and rescue efforts proceeded as quickly as possible. There are still to this day people who need to be rescued and victims who haven't been attended to. Those people are what we need to concentrate on.
Just my two cents.
D.
"You must be absorbed. You are not of the body. It is the will of Landrieux."
Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu is, indeed, Sen. Mary's little bud.
She was laying low for a few days since there was so much finger pointing going on. Also, i don't think she wanted to be confronted about her "i'm gonna punch (Bush)!" remark. Not that the MSM would ever ask her about that.
The "good people of Louisiana" elected this senator, the socialist governor and socialist mayor. Actually, they are getting what they voted for. Lying, screaming, fools for elected officials. They got what they voted for. They got what the wanted. Somehow, in that respect, I do not feel sorry for them. They asked for these turds to lead them. Now they see how they lead.
I read where the Corps of Engineers had to build a roadway to get to the break--and how many cranes could you get onto a makeshift road at a time?
Landrieu has come unhinged by the disaster.
LORD GOD OF ISRAEL,
You are being mocked, Lord. Your truth, your standards, your values, your priorities, your goals are being mocked by such traitorous idiots, Lord. Please raise up many fierce standards against them.
I ASK OF YOU, PLEASE, LORD . . .
REMOVE ALL SUCH TRAITORS, LIARS, CORRUPT PONTIFICATORS ON THE NATIONAL STAGE--PARTICULARLY INCLUDING LANDRIEU, THE MAYOR, THE GOVERNOR; ALL THE DIMRAT SENATORS WHO SO LOUDLY SUPPORT THEM; THE MEDIA PUPPETS WHO SPREAD THEIR LIES; . . .
PLEASE LORD, CHANGE THEM, CAUSE THEM TO CONFESS, REPENT AND EARNESTLY ATTEMPT TO MAKE AMMENDS FITTING FOR THEIR ABILITY AND THEIR SINS;
OR
MOVE THEM TOTALLY AND PERMANENTLY OFF THE PUBLIC STAGE. REMOVE THEM FROM ALL POSITIONS OF INFLUENCE OF ANY SIGNIFICANCE ABOVE SHOESHINE BOY FOR THE CLERK FOR DOGCATCHER IN NOME ALASKA.
LORD, GOD, LET JUDGMENT AFTER THE CHURCH BEGIN WITH THE LEADERS OF SUCH HIDEOUSNESS--PARTICULARLY INCLUDING SHRILLERY CLINTON AND HER SIDE-KICK.
LET PEOPLE KNOW BY THE MANNER AND EMPHATIC NATURE OF YOUR JUDGMENT CAUSEING SUCH JOKERS TO REAP IN ABUNDANCE WHAT THEY HAVE SOWN--LET PEOPLE KNOW BY THE MANNER AND INTENSITY OF YOUR ACTIONS WITH SUCH JOKERS THAT IT WAS !YOU! WHO HAS DONE IT.
In Jesus' Name, Amen.
Her unroyal lowness--her hideous heinous--Bwtich Shrillery Antoinette de Fosterizer de Machiavelli de Marx de Pol Pot de Stalin de Mao de Arafart de Castro de Sade
