As it happened, my youngest son, Rudy, was in New Orleans as the storm approached the Gulf Coast, so I was acutely focused on what actions were being taken to evacuate the city. On Aug. 27, with the hurricane gaining force in the Gulf, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin called for a voluntary evacuation of the city....

State And Local Officials Bare The Responsibility For Chaos You would think that a newspaper could employ someone who knew the difference between "bare" and "bear".
You might be wrong.

I believe "bear" is the correct verb, but the original article has "bare." Not sure if there is supposed to be a point there about exposing something or just some headline writer's poor grasp of the English language.

From the article:
"No doubt, the federal response to this crisis was far from flawless, but at the end of the day, it was federal troops that restored order, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that plugged breaches in the levees, and federal forces that ultimately evacuated thousands of those trapped. Instead of blaming federal authorities, the country ought to be giving thanks."
Says it all.

Well .. where is the Admin MOD - we are supposed to use the original title ONLY and then a statement can be made in parenthesis (to explain what the article is about).
Also .. it's forbidden to have a link that does not work!

Instead of blaming federal authorities, the country ought to be giving thanks. Two out of three ain't bad. It was National Guard that facilitated erstoration of order. The only activity federal troops participated in was search, rescue, evacuation, and delivery of supplies.

Hi Newbie. Allow me to recommend that instead of using the Post Chronicle as your source, use
Townhall.com. They have all the best conservative columnists, but they don't make up their own titles for the columns like the Post Chronicle apparently does. Furthermore, if they DID make up their own titles, at least they would be smart enough over at Townhall to know the difference between "bare" and "bear". The actual title for this column was "The trouble at the local level" and the column is available
here.
Welcome to FR. I hope you enjoy your stay, and I hope you will check out Townhall.com
To: CyberAnt
Well .. where is the Admin MOD - we are supposed to use the original title ONLY and then a statement can be made in parenthesis (to explain what the article is about). The link goes to the Post Chronicle, where they used the title that the poster used. I was going to chastize the newbie for making up a title and using "bare" rather than "bear", but when I went to the source I found that it was the idiots at Post Chronicle that made up the title (misspelling and all).
To: Constitution Day
I wonder if we'll see a correction anytime soon?
Linda Chavez' original column is at Townhall with a different title altogether, See my post #11

Fellow Freepers:
At the suggestion of writer Michelle Malkin last Friday, I have cobbled together a blogsite called Texas Clearinghouse for Katrina Aid to serve as a clearinghouse for refugee efforts in Texas.
Texas is getting more refugees than any other state -- that's fine, we'll take them all -- but we need help providing them with food, clothing, and shelter.
If you are a refugee, you can information that will help you find relief. If you want to donate or volunteer, you can find someone who needs you.
Right now the site mostly covers Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas but I will add various churches, schools, and other charities in Lubbock and Austin tonight. My wife was down at Reunion Arena in Dallas yesterday handing out care packages and spiritually ministering to the refugees as a representative of her employer. She says that the situation is tragic and that there's a lot of work to be done. There are so many children who don't know where their parents are or even if their parents are still alive.
There are a lot of churches and other organizations in Texas that need help in dealing with the problem and I would appreciate it if you would get the word out.
Many thanks,
Michael McCullough
