Just reported on Britt Hume's show
FNC

Posted on 09/07/2005 3:30:30 PM PDT by carlr

Major Garrett is talking with Britt and reported that a Red Cross representative told him the LA state homeland security department refused them permission to take food and water to the Superdome because they did`nt want to encourage people to go there.
They wanted to get people out and were afraid that providing support would be a "magnet" atttracting more displaced persons.

To paraphrase, the state was looking to discourage people through hardship out of the Superdome. All the aid in the world wouldnt have gotten through.

I was lucky enough to catch this segment. It was the most informative five minutes I've heard since the storm hit.

I'm thinking about taping it when the show re-airs later tonight.

What did the mayor call the dome? "A Refuge of Last Resort"?

Did they mention when this supposed refusal took place? If it happened today that would be a different case than a few days ago. Actually though, if the Mayor really wanted to clear the city, why not use food and water at the SewerDome as a way to lure them out?

The question then becomes WHEN were they refused access?

Because the police would also not allow people to LEAVE the superdome once the water level came up. They held them there, even when some wanted to try to wade out.

But they did allow chopper drops of food and water.

Timeing of these events are important to getting the big picture.

Boy this Karl Rove fellow is Evil.

Yeah, he is, pretending to be this LA state homeland security representative that told this to the Red Cross in an obvious attempt to slander the great work the state and local officials have done! < /sarcasm>

They didn't mention a day, but Major reported right after playing a clip from Dusty Reid about why weren't water trucks allowed in. It sounded like the refusal was on Mon or Tue of last week.

My question is, the mayor of New Orleans knew the Superdome was going to be a refuge, no matter how much they denied it. It was used last year for Ivan, and they knew there were people who weren't going to get out. In fact they told people to bring 4 or 5 days of provisions. Why were there emergency stockpiles in the Dome. Was the money allocated, and then diverted?
