From the Time Picayune :
Tuesday, August 30, 2005
Broussard the optimist
Tuesday, 10:34 p.m.

No situation is so dire that a little levity isn't appreciated.

Jefferson Parish President Aaron Broussard might not have been striving for a laugh during an interview on WWL-TV Tuesday night, but he sure got some giggles from a group of Times-Picayune reporters gathered at the Houma Courier putting together Wednesday's edition of The Times-Picayune.

Broussard, responding to questions about how long it would take to get the metro area back in shape, said he would try to do better than any estimate given. For instance, if the estimate for electricity is one month, he said he and other officials would strive to complete the task in less time than that.

I'm an optimist, he told the reporter, adding he otherwise wouldn't be wearing the shirt he had on.

The shirt? A New Orleans Saints shirt, of course.

the only thing he did right was allow jefferson parish residents to come back in and get their belongings.
My sister and her fiance did just that.

The home had 3 inches of water in the front part of it. The hugh pine tree in the back of the house was uplifted and fell on the house damaging the roof above their living room.

They said the miliary helicopters were flying in their neighborhood every five minutes.

Surprising, because CBS had Aaron Broussard starring in the special report they did about Katrina last evening.

Aaron Broussard got his 15 minutes. [Probably is trying work up a movie-of-the-week, book deals, talkshow appearances, etc.]

Reminds me of a story.

Seems there was a big flood coming and Floyd was sitting on his porch. Along came a SUV and offered him a ride. Floyd refused saying God would take care of him.

A little later the rising flood waters had forced Floyd to the second floor. Along came a boat and offered him a ride. Floyd refused saying God would take care of him.

A little later the rising flood waters had forced Floyd to the roof. Along came a helicopter and offered him a ride. Floyd refused saying God would take care of him.

A little later Floyd died when the rising flood waters rose over the roof. When Floyd got to Heaven, he asked God: "Lord, why didn't you rescue me from the flood?" God replied: "You fool, I sent a SUV, a boat, and a helicopter....."

Just a blast from the archives..

http://www.freerepublic.com/forum/a37f7b7c177db.htm

I was in Raleigh during Floyd (and Goldsboro during Fran). Interesting to look at the comparisons. People were still living in FEMA trailers when I left NC in 2002.

I continue to be amazed. It was yesterday that Broussard played the employee's mother who drowned story. Now we find that the nursing home refused to evacuate. Incredible. Even more incredible is that it was reported on CBS.

Welcome to Louisiana politics. While the pols in places like New Jersey are merely corrupt, the pols in LA are corrupt AND stupid.

And as we can see here, that's a really deadly combination. And they actually expect us to just hand them a blank check and look away while they spend it!

"And they actually expect us to just hand them a blank check and look away while they spend it!"

Not an entirely irrational expectation, looking back over the last several decades. Times do change, though. Or at least I hope so.

Me neither. Personally we said as we listened to his account of how the woman called her son every day asking when someone was coming to get her and every day he told her the next day...same call..the next day again and again till she died.

If it were my mother, mother in law, father, father in law I would have rented a boat and gone to get her MYSELF! There is NO WAY I would have promised my mother or others that help would get to them day after day after day when she was crying to me on the phone.

"As I recall, BJ flew over Eastern NC once and bit his lip for the camera."

The thing from Floyd that really stuck with me was those aerial shots of the sound, as all the dead cattle and debris from inland finally washed out the mouth of the river. I think the scale of it finally hit me then.

It made me sick to my stomach to watch.

Ok. So who's going to send Russert an email telling him how foolish he looked while comforting this shyster?

I knew he was faking. Just too pat and his story didn't wash. Why didn't he go rescue the mom on his own.

What a maroon.
