Google in Bed w/ Air America?
google | 9/8/2005 | RealMenVoteRepublican

Something fishy is going on. I searched google for "Air America" to check out how many stations are dumb enough to air their trash and found something interesting. Google seems to have given AA a very special privilage. Under their normal heading and description are the following additional links: Logo | Find a Station | The Al Franken Show | Morning Sedition

I suppose this kind of, to my knowledge, unique treatment is Google's prerogative but shows you who is sucking who's toes.

I noticed over the weekend that Google, as the provider for advertising for Ann Coulter's web site, was pushing left wing links.

Google's givers go Democratic

By Jim Hopkins, USA TODAY

SAN FRANCISCO — As it claws for greater power, the Democratic Party has found a newly rich ally in one of the fastest-growing U.S. companies: Google.

Google employees gave $207,650 to federal candidates for last year's elections, up from just $250 in 2000 when it was still a start-up. And 98% went to Democrats, the biggest share among top tech donors, a new USA TODAY campaign finance analysis shows.

...

Top Google givers last year included CEO Eric Schmidt, whose company stock is worth about $2.8 billion. His biggest donation: $25,000 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Google has long been leaning left, IMO. There were several threads on this during the election and before. You might want to try dogpile.com or icerocket.com.

That appears to be a paid Google Ad. It's uncanny where Boys and Girls Club money turns up!

I don't think that this is necessarily evidence that Google is biased. (There are other things that are more credible in that role).

I don't think so. They appeared to be controlled by Google and one of the links was and Anti-Conservative web site that had a list of all the usual players, e.g. Rush, Hannity, Ingraham, Medved (about 20 in all) and all it did was talk about what was wrong with them and basically categorized them as liars.

Google is in bed with the liberals, no doubt about it. I've done searches in 'images' for political parody before and all I saw were PhotoShopped pictures of Bush.

Couldn't find any BAD ones of the big Democrats, or else they moved them so far back that it would be a long search.

Google "CBS news"
"Fox news"
"New York Times"

or any of a bunch of other media outlets.

This is part of their google news scan. Anything that
looks like news gets that treatment.

Google makes an extraordinary amount of money from ad revenue. I was curious as to how a company that offers a free service can have a stock price so high so I looked at the financial statements posted on their investor relations page. Wow! So don't be surprised if Err America looted some kid's piggy bank to pay Google to do that.

Why, yes, leftists use the internet as well! The free market--it's a beautiful thing. I don't punish companies because of who they donate to politically, but rather by offering a shoddy product. I'm more annoyed by Google's GUID in their cookies than I am their donations to failed political parties--I can always counteract that by voting for the Republican.

Next thing you know, someone will complain because Apple had Madonna and Kanye West at the iPod Nano/ROKR cellphone debut.

This is definitely not a paid advertisement (I'm a google customer ... no real choice).

I think what he is referring to is this type of a search:

SEARCH: "Air America"

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22air+america%22

It isn't that it is the top link that is the issue, it is that all station info is there. Granted there is no such info on the top link if you google "Al Franken" but "Air America" is no more a network than "EIB"/"Excellence In Broadcasting" yet that one gets no such info displayed.

As the saying goes they're all in bed together. Al Gore serves as Google's Senior Advisor. According to article: http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2003/mar/19gore.html
"Mr. Gore serves as a Senior Advisor to Google, Inc. He is also a visiting professor at the University of California Los Angeles, Fisk University and Middle Tennessee State University." Also joined Apple's Board of Directors. He also created the format of his tv channel after Air America's format.

I'd definately say Google is biased. Then again it could be as simple as ad revenue.

Ya know that's just such a silly thing to say....

Googles image search as well as their web search is 100% automated. There is no time or place for human intervention to include or exclude certain images. That is why they are the best search engine, because they are fair.

I have a friend who has a Pro-Life Blog and Google slaps Abortion ads at he top. She says it has something to do with the word search function. If the word abortion is used in a post on her blog, an abortion ad suddenly appears at the top of her page. I believe these advertisers pay a fee for placements. Anyone can do it. Actually, when I looked into it, it was pretty cheap.

If you want proof, type in "Free Republic". You will see the header links provided just as they were for Air America.

Guys... my point was not that google doesn't have the right to do what it wishes just that it was making this special promotion for AA.

Now, I see that I am wrong ... well... I now know more that I did before.

Frankly, I like google for what it does.. it is the most innovative service of its kind in the world (my opinion). I was on the lookout for any unfair use of its system and am pleased to know I was wrong. I still question their use of The Peoples Daily and Xinhua as 'news' sources.
