I kid you not.
What an complete idiot. She talks as if black people are a different species.
something like 4 percent
My sister said maybe we should stop giving to the Red Cross and start sending money tot he city of Houston or the state of Texas if these people are going to insist on staying there.
Who is picking up the tab...anybody know if the Feds are reimbursing Texas or Houston for the added burden on their infrastructure?
Besides, up North you can't get any decent chicken-fried steak, boiled peanuts, grits, cajun food, biscuits'n'gravy, fried green tomatoes, or pecan pie...
Amen. Adding to your list: ...or fried catfish, okra, boiled crawfish, sweet potatoes, buttermilk pie, treeripe peaches, decent tomatoes, cornbread, pinto beans,....
Bust up the place and dissipate the population so that they become more like average, ethical, morally healthy Americans.
People do learn from their surroundings.
Good plan, I'd say.
On Fox News Channel this morning, they said that the survivors are starting to leave the shelters. They think there will be a mass exodus as soon as people receive their debit cards and their unemployment checks catch up with them.
The federal government will reimburse the states 100% of the cost of housing, feeding the survivors.
After being used as a commodity for so long, it must feel good to be treated like a human being.
Now THAT'S what I call a meal!!!!
May I suggest Haiti. Should feel right at home there......voodoo and all.
St. Louis set up to take in 2,000. I wonder if any will come.
On one of the National Guard flights to Utah with the survivors, they were told beforehand where they were going. 20 (out of 50) got off the helicopter saying there was nothing to do in Utah.
People are finding their way to their families, which is the right thing to do, in other states and counties. We had a story last night of refugees arriving in Buffalo to stay with family there; they had driven there in their own car, which looked like a car I had in the 1960s, a man and wife and five children. They were happy to be there and ready to buckle down and get to work.
My own suggestion is to give people the money to reach their families in whatever place their families may be, and let their families look after them. This will have the double-barrelled benefit of breaking up the refugee camps and bringing back to the forefront the whole idea of Family -- not Government, not Resources (your neighbour's wallet) but FAMILY as the place you turn when all else fails you. That is what made America great.
I checked our city in Florida, and as of two days ago, on one housing website, there had been around 900 offers of housing.
I also called the Salvation Army to see if they needed any "material stuff" (we had already donated cash) to help with Katrina evacuees because we have a rather large SA center here with a large housing complex.
Anyway, the lady I talked to said they had had only 3 come in so far, she expected more but wondered if evacuees were trying to avoid Florida because of the threat of future hurricanes this season.
Then I checked our states county red cross shelter log, and there are really not a lot of evacuees in Florida (except in the Panhandle, but still nothing like in Tx, so that might be the reason.
Here's the Red Cross shelter status page for Florida:

oops, wrong link, these are shelters for Ophelia
Can't seem to find the link for shelters for Katrina...it was up last night, but doesn't seem to be there today.
I don't blame people for not wanting to be herded like cattle all over the country.
Think, NFL Football.
That's pretty funny about Massachusetts. If only that lady knew her history. Massachusetts was the first state (since Reconstruction) to elect an African-American to the US Senate (REPUBLICAN! Edward Brooke in the 1960's). When is the last time Louisiana elected an African-American to the Senate?
