As EMT's and paramedics I don't see where they stopped to help anyone hurt?

Fellow Freepers:

At the suggestion of writer Michelle Malkin last Friday, I have cobbled together a blogsite called Texas Clearinghouse for Katrina Aid to serve as a clearinghouse for refugee efforts in Texas.

Texas is getting more refugees than any other state -- that's fine, we'll take them all -- but we need help providing them with food, clothing, medicine, and shelter. We need help taking care of their pets, too.

If you are a refugee, you can information that will help you find relief. If you want to donate or volunteer, you can find someone who needs you. Believe me, there are a lot of organizations who need your help.

Right now the site mostly covers Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas but I'm adding more every night. My wife was down at Reunion Arena in Dallas Tuesday handing out care packages and spiritually ministering to the refugees as a representative of her employer. She says that the situation is tragic and that there's a lot of work to be done. There are so many children who don't know where their parents are or even if their parents are still alive.

There are a lot of churches and other organizations in Texas that need help in dealing with the problem and I would appreciate it if you would get the word out.

Many thanks,

Michael McCullough

Stingray blogsite

Thanks.

The additional "facts" surrounding the bridge incident mesh nicely with my biases. I figured that it was part of the age-old struggle of haves and have-nots - the haves were defending their turf against a desperate rabble of have-nots.

The writers were more politicized - and therefore less believeable - than I first thought. But ultimately nothing was resolved. It remains impossible to separate the facts (observations) from the propaganda. The thread you recommended consists mostly of right-wing propaganda being used to counter left-wing propaganda. Precious few new facts appear.

I said earlier on this thread that I believe this story, and I still do. The writer (an avowed socialist) is reporting what he saw, in the context of his own biases and prejudices.

I've also read other viewpoints and mitigating facts here on FR, NRO, Samizdata and Powerline. Now I can see why cops would stop them from crossing the bridge, why they made them get off the freeway, and why they broke the 'mob' sized group into smaller, more manageable ones. We were criticizing LEOs for not keeping order. It looks like that's what they were trying to do in these cases.

One thing, I can't imagine them stealing the food and water. But hey, since the governor and mayor turned away food/water/supplies from Red Cross and Salvation Army, supposedly in order to discourage people from staying in the city, maybe "starve 'em out" was part of official policy.

I also understand (from Florida experience, having lived through Betsy, Camille and other hurricanes) why the residents didn't evacuate. You hear 'hurricane' and you think 'time to board up and hunker down.' That's what usually works. Too often, people who do leave come back to a ransacked house. And remember Florida last year - FOUR major evacuations??? It's a huge hassle (putting it mildly) and if people don't think it is worth it, they won't do it - furthermore, they (and the media) will criticize their local officials for over-reacting. (This actually happened to Mayor Nagin with Hurricane Ivan last year, which might explain his hesitation to order evacuation this time.)

While there is plenty of blame to go around, especially for the failure to have a workable plan for the sick and inform, I think that most of the 'blame' should go to Ma Nature, as usual red in tooth and claw. There is only so much we mere humans can do in the face of such power and chaos.
