Celine criticizes Katrina response
Miami Herald ^ | Sept 8, 2005 | good question

Posted on 09/08/2005 4:32:18 PM PDT by Fawn

Canadian singer Celine Dion has launched a scathing attack on President Bush's Iraq policy, while criticizing the government's slow response to the southern states devastated by Hurricane Katrina, reports IMDB.com.

Dion, who has donated $1 million to victims of the storm, grew visibly emotional as she told of her frustration watching tens of thousands of survivors wait days for aid Saturday on CNN's Larry King Live show.

''I open [sic] the television, there's people still there, waiting to be rescued, and for me it's not acceptable,'' she said. ``I know there's reasons for it, I'm sorry to say, I'm being rude, but I don't want to hear those reasons.''

The singer also criticized authorities for arresting looters in New Orleans, saying they should make rescuing the stranded victims a priority.

''Oh, they're stealing 20 pair of jeans or they're stealing television sets. Who cares? They're not going to go too far with it,'' she said. ``Some of the people who do that -- they're so poor they've never touched anything in their lives. Let them touch those things for once.''

On the war in Iraq, she said: ``How come it's so easy to send planes in another country to kill everyone in a second, to destroy lives? We need to be there right now to rescue the rest of the people.''

You'll be the first on the phone and be thankful that they probably won't be NO PD.

Oh, right, because the MSM and lightweight 'fans' hang on their every word as though they were Gods..... news flash: they're not. Yep the two biggest mistakes in this whole thing were:

1. The state of LA not letting the Red Cross and Salvation Army take water at least to the downtown N.O. shelters.

2. The LA officials led by the Attorney General saying they were not going to worry about property crime. Immediately all the police in Jefferson, Chalmette etc blocked the exits from N.O. so people had even more trouble getting out.

There's almost nobody left in the entertainment industry who I will watch or listen to. Not that i EVER liked Celines music. Don't get me wrong. But these celebs are just not getting it; that when people disagree with their political views, they won't pay to see or hear them anymore. It's reaching a point of critical mass. The movie business is not doing well. The music business either. Why aren't their business managers telling them to "shut up and sing".

Tell her to ask Governor Blank why the Red Cross was denied access to the Superdome and others before the levees broke, and why she continued to deny access.

Tell her to ask the Governor why she refused to order an evacuation, even after the President insisted that she do so.

Tell her to ask the Governor why she was so reluctant to declare a State of Emergency...the legal trigger for FEMA to step in.

ETC, ETC, ETC

She's ignorant AND arrogant. I saw her on t.v. the other night when they were showing a clip of her emotional breakdown. I'm glad that she has given $1 million. What I find appalling with these "celebrities" is that for them, $1,000,000 is chump change. If they were as sincere as they want to appear, maybe they should consider kicking in more than what is convenient for them. What are some of these celebrities willing to go without to help others in need? Only as far as they need to in order to get their face on t.v.

"She's pretty impressed with herself."

Yes, Vision--in a nutshell. Have you ever seen the extremely over the top photos and write-up of her wedding, and then her subsequent renewal of vows in Vegas? OMG, it's all just unbelievable. In the ceremony in Vegas, she arrives a la Cleopatra in full Cleopatra garb and excess and air-nose. When I saw the pics and read the copy, I sincerely thought it was some sort of spoof.

NO expense was spared in either ceremony, and the exorbitances were stunningly shocking.

Why doesn't she go down there herself in her pink and brown fringed Chanel suit, write a big fat check, pick up a few families and then take them back to a few of her many (truly) gilded manses, feed them beluga, and pour them some Veuve Clicquot? Sheesh!

They just had another blockbuster tonight.

In addition to blocking the Red Cross, the STATE Homeland Security also blocked the Salvation Army from delivering food and water to evacuees at the Super Dome. Just a little life saving thing like that was STOPPED. By the state. Not the feds. Try to keep up.
