For the Guardian (UK) and Michelle Malkin and all the other "KATRINA CRIME DENIERS," my first batch of links to eyewitness accounts of murder, rape, shootings and other crimes in New Orleans since KATRINA struck the Gulf Coast on August 29, 2005.
TOPICS: Crime/Corruption; News/Current Events
KEYWORDS: crime; denial; hurricane; joinedtomorrow; katrina; katrinahurricane; malkin

It appears that today, September 9, 2005, the New Orleans Police Department and some media outlets want to minimize, diminish and/or deny the amount of violence witnessed by thousands of people trapped in New Orleans from Monday, August 29, 2005 to Friday, September 2, 2005.
Interestingly, both liberal papers, the Guardian (UK)
The Guardian's Katrina cove-up
and at least one conservative commentator, Michelle Malkin,
Michelle's myths
are lining up against the thousands of Americans, civilian and military, who were eyewitnesses to the post-hurricane crime wave in New Orleans.

I would never deny that many criminal acts occured in the madness that followed Katrina.
What I have a problem with is people coming on here with their own AGENDA suggesting that collective blame be placed on one particular ethnic group.
Thats hardly being in denial about crime.

It's fine to talk about "word of mouth reports", but I want something more than "unsubstantiated claims".

It's not necessarily an eyewitness account, when someone in the Superdome says people were raped there. The witnessses are not saying they saw it with their own eyes, although some do say they were groped and threatened with rape. At least three of the stories feature a young Brit named Trout, so they are not independent corroborations.
I pray no children were raped and murdered - if they were where are the family members screaming inconsolably for justice? Dead too?
It is my hope that the atrocities reported, like the death toll, may have been exaggerated.

Last week, the media was full of crime stories from New Orleans. There was a high crime rate in New Orleans before the flood. Anyone expect crime to take a holiday because there's a flood? For historical perspective, there was looting and crime after the San Francisco earthquake and fire of 1906. The Army was actually called out, and a number of looters were actually shot. Another Freeper added that at least one San Franciscan thief was lynched by a mob.

What I have a problem with is people coming on here with their own AGENDA suggesting that collective blame be placed on one particular ethnic group.
And I have a problem with those who assert that any claim regarding violence in New Orleans is the result of racism. Just because a large percentage (not all, but most) of the population that stayed behind in the city was African American, this doesn't mean that they are incapable of crime ... or that the FACT that some of those engaged in crime somehow indicts the entire ethnic group. I have not said this, nor have the vast majority of those who have pointed out that such crime OCCURRED. Rather, it's been the race-baiters who have denied that such could have happened because, to claim such, is to somehow claim that such is true of ALL African Americans. A steaming shovel full of that will fertilize even a dead lawn.

"New Orleans police chief Eddie Compass said last night: "We don't have any substantiated rapes. We will investigate if the individuals come forward.
And while many claim they happened, no witnesses, survivors or survivors' relatives have come forward.
Nor has the source for the story of the murdered babies, or indeed their bodies, been found. And while the floor of the convention centre toilets were indeed covered in excrement, the Guardian found no corpses."
Interesting, no victims yet

This is what happens when Liberalism goes unchecked. Mississippi and Alabama did not experience the same criminal acts in their States. Louisianna and especially New Orleans is a prime example of what 8 generations of Democrat control will get you.

I saw at least 2 older white women interviewed by cnn and fox and while they said things were bad in the convention center (hot, lack of food/water etc) neither said anything about crime problems.

I don't know what happened in the Super Dome or the Convention center, but it's clear that the city was looted and thugs were shooting at rescuers and even the Helocopters trying to pull people from rooftops. They say New Orleans is surrounded by Levees and is basically a city in a bowl. A Toilet Bowl

You didn't accuse the entire black population of New Orleans with blanket condemnation so obviously I didn't have you in mind regarding my statement.
Its not even the majority on this board that are guilty. But there are a few and they know who they are.
To: BillTotts20thCentury
I don't know that Michelle Malkin is saying that none of those things happened, just that many of the accounts have been unsubstantiated. I seem to recall someone claiming blacks were eating the dead to stay alive, but no one was ever able to prove that either. I'm sure plenty of horrific things went on in NO, but I'm also sure a lot of it is myth.

From on e of the stories....
She had been one of the "fortunate ones" to get into the Superdome but this proved a mixed blessing. Within hours the conditions became "disgusting," with just eight toilets for at least 20,000 people.
Is this possible ? Superdome seats almost 70k and there's only 8 toilets ?

And what does police looting have to do with your original contention of:
eyewitness accounts of murder, rape
I have seen no "eye witness accounts" of rape and murder.
It may have happened but your links do not prove it.

What was the murder/rape rate prior to Katrina?
As another poster pointed out, the criminal element didn't suddenly become law abiding citizens because of Katrina.

New Orleans always had a high crime rate but the storm made it even worse. Many of the people who stayed behind while others evacuated did so to take advantage of the chaos and lack of police presence. There were career criminals and others who just used the storm as an opportunity to steal stuff that wasn't theirs. The tourist from Britain had good reason to be scared since he was surrounded by a large number of criminals who hate white people.

It took me to the seventh article to find more than one account of a crime. Pointing to the same unsubstantiated account ("Jamie" witnessing police arrest a man for raping a seven year old.) five times hardly makes for five crimes.
