Media barred in death zone (Honore speaks)
The Age ^ | 9-11-05

THE US military is to bar journalists and photographers from documenting the recovery of bodies left on the streets of New Orleans by hurricane Katrina.

Lieutenant-General Russel Honore, the commander of the relief operation, said on Friday that while the military had allowed reporters covering the catastrophe free rein, it was now slamming the door shut out of respect for the possibly thousands of victims and their families.

"We've had total access to everything we've done — the good, the bad and the ugly — but that operation (the recovery of corpses) will be conducted with dignity and respect for the families," the general said.

"There will be zero access to that operation. It would not be good to have pictures of people, the deceased, shown on any media."

Lieutenant-General Honore called for published pictures of corpses to be removed from websites.

As the water is slowly drained by pumps — and more bodies are revealed — journalists will be restricted from entering the parts of the city that have been submerged.

"..also wonder if this "judge" has anything to say about the unconstitutional confiscation of firearms from law-abing citizens defending their homes from looters and thugs."

Speaking of "thugs with guns"

Sean Penn toles one with him when he's not "rescueing" victims.

Brown has been in charge of FEMA through four major hurricanes, he received accolades for his responses to those events. What was different about Katrina? I guess it just isn't a Black and White issue? S\

Bush has not distinguished himself as a leader by throwing Brown off the ship just to appease the circling sharks. It was not Brown they wanted, but he, and by showing weakness, he will only embolden them more.

Just read the article..... Unbelievable.. However at lease officials back then took RESPOSIBLITY for their actions.

And not breaking down and crying like Blanco and Co.

Note the stench of 6,000 dead.

Nothing like that in NO, is there?

Our media and politicans are such panicky girly-men.

I'm most disappointed by our Repub. Vitter.

Grow some 'nads, mand start acting like a man, sheesh.

During the Viet Nam war, the media showed dead soldiers, on the battlefields, up close and personal every night.

That's exactly correct. It's also why the military wouldn't/doesn't even let them cover the arrival of caskets back into the US, except at a distance. They also will keep them back at military funerals if requested by the family.

And if they won't, I and my H&K will.

"Right, General Grant appeared to be what he was, a grungy, unkempt, unappealing, alcoholic, whose only attribute was; he knew what had to be done, and he went and did it. Thanks to him, I today live in the USA, not the CSA.
I am a unreconstructed rebel redneck, but truth is truth. And if the Yankees bother us anymore, we will whip them again. H\

"And if the Yankees bother us anymore"
....

"anymore"? Dude, you weren't even alive during the civil war, therefore it was no "skin" off your nose. Time to crawl out of your time warp and move into the new millenium.

Smile and the world will smile back.

They santized the airwaves of 9/11 pics just days after the event

The press self-censored itself ON 9/11 by refusing to show footage that the rest of the world saw: "the jumpers" at the Twin Towers being a chief example.

I think Michael Brown has plenty of experience. He was appointed as a deputy director and general counsel to FEMA in 2001 before becoming head of FEMA in 2003. He has had experience of working through 164 disasters. I looked at the pictures you posted and I think he looks ill. No matter what he said, the bottom line is that the local and state government are responsible for failing to get their people out and for failing to put their disaster plan into motion. The Governor and the mayor sat back and did nothing! They expected the feds to do and pay for everything... yet she failed to formally request federal aid.

Yeah, (sarc)not everyone can be a Jack of all trades like yourself(armchair blow hard).

Nor can everyone be a Jackass like yourself. My observation of Gen. Honore was done with all due respect to his talents as a field commander, and in no way indicts those abilities.

At least America realizes that the General Honores of America are masters(highly skilled) in their occupation.

Yes. A military general. Not a public relations agent.

Some people like General Honore are able to move mountains(troops) far better with verbal metaphors.

Those weren't troops needing to be moved. They were hostile reporters who needed to be informed (which they have a right to be) but not feared (which they don't).

Honore doesn't seem to be an intelligent guy, but he really is, no doubt about that.

I didn't say anything about his intelligence, just his stage presence in front of the cameras.

He always seemed like he was in deep thought or staring off into space whenever I saw him in the Army. But then he would start talking and he was on top of the situation the whole time!

I can easily believe that. One doesn't rise to his rank by being a fool. In fact, I'd be a little reluctant to trust a glib, smooth PR man with a field command. But by the same token, I'd hesitate to give a crusty old battlefield commander the mic on a sensitive stage where harpies of every description are just waiting for a slip of your tongue.

Heads up, CNN: You have a piece of paper from one mush-brained judge.

We have the decent people of America behind us (and we have the guns).

Any questions?

Wow. Great, liberty-loving attitude there.

Brownshirt practice get out early tonight?

So, we can see dead [insert any nationality here] all the time on the news, but not dead Americans? Not that I WANT to see them, mind you,but this order makes it seem as tho American bodies are more "special" than any others.

~~~~~~~~~~
Lol! Got one bite... !!! :-0
In case you haven't noticed, the "authorities" are infringing trampling on the Second Amendment, and are confiscating the People's guns in NOLA.
I figured some humorless soul would trip over the implied </SARCASM> tag...
Highlight the blank space above... '-)
At least you're on the right side! :-)
OTOH, I am tickled to see that Fox News is kicking Corpse News Network's @$$ in the ratings... :-0
