I am pretty sure he said something about it being too difficult getting the debit cards from FEMA so they sent him to the Red Cross. My question is do they get cards from FEMA and Red Cross? Also there was a guy who I think was the Secretary of HUD who said that they would be making $26,000 available for all the evacuees to get their lives back on track! This had better be loans, not gifts!

I believe that they do get both the FEMA and Red Cross funds. As for the $26,000, I believe I heard the guy say that it was a long term, low interest loan. However, I'd like to see the default rate on those loans. The government is notorious in letting people default on loans. Even freaking government employees.

Since you have to have cable (and pay for it) to get Fox News, they are not subject to FTC regulation.

the Feds are spending $200,000 per evacuee

and they'll end up with nothing to show for it.

It's probably good for the economy. Bad for your taxes though.

your right he did say the f word and the Fox News guy said something like hey we aren't going to take that or something to that effect. How does he think he is entitled to $20,000 and as far as those Debit Cards maybe there finding people are buying booze and cigs and useless stuff aand that is why they are stopping the program
AS WE SEE THE ATTITUDE OF ENTITLEMENT CONTINUES

THANK YOU! I needed this post.

After reading that Iraqis were scraping together funds for the hurricane victims and the story of the European life savings giver...I just needed to hear this.

I can't tell you how glad I am to hear it!

Can this be done for him? I think this needs a lot more exposure! We've got to turn this thing around. The coverage is not helpful to the thousands of hard working, grateful people who have been affected by this.

they had set up tables to register volunteers from among the evacuees<

I had not heard this -- actually, I see it as good news. At least someone was trying. Would love to see how many folks took advantage of the opportunity.

This fine example of manhood is what will turn the US population against the refugees in about another week of TV coverage. The decent people will find jobs, while the pimps, drug dealers, and fat freeloaders will be making trouble and finding the TV cameras to whine to. No help for whiners!

"Hopefully this doesn't give FOX an FTC problem, but I can't see how it can be avoided. Fox may be strictly liable for such language, and may have to use tape delay in future for such interviews."

Its the FCC, and Foxnews is cable... FCC rules dont apply.

"Heh, see my post 81, JJ is already demanding the same amount as the 911 families got, apparently!"

That's not even counting "reparations!"

Having spent some time at Brown Convetion Center, I would rather that they spend their time looking for jobs and apartments than volunteering their time.

We (Houston) have the volunteer angle covered and we would much rather they spend their time making arragements for their families to start a new life in Texas, temporarily or permanently.

As of Sunday morning, we had 40700 volunteers trained and straining at the bit. We have only used 7000 to date.

People things are going very well in Houston.
Very well indeed.

And I must say, "straining at the bit" is a gross understatement.

Very glad to hear it. I agree that it would be far better for these folks to find jobs and get on their feet. What kinds of job aid are they getting? Would love to see a "career fair" equivalent for these folks!

They have been holding job fairs most days at the evacuation centers.

Some employers are walking in with signs and walking though the crowd.

A pastor related a story yesterday at church (Second Baptist of Houston)....

One of the buses came in from Louisiana and a kid jumped off and told the volunteers that he would be back in a few minutes. He ran across the street and disappeared into a Burger King. When he reappeared he had been hired on the spot. Apparently he was the only one on the bus that saw the help wanted sign as the bus passed the Burger King. I expect he is now a valued employee.

There are lots of people who are of similar character and they will do fine in Texas.

Awesome! (as my 4-yr-old would say). "Have it Your Way" indeed.

I would REALLY like to hear more about these effort on the MSM. Highlights the best of America -- resourceful business owners who have a need for workers and are going to a great source, and enterprising individuals who are taking advantage of the great opportunities out there and getting jobs to allow them to move on.

I'd even settle for an honorable mention by Britt on the 1/2 hour of Special Report!

I'm not sure you will hear much of it due to the predominance of religious organizations in the project. As of Sunday, in Houston alone, there are 2200 organizations involved in the housing and caring for the evacuees. Most of these are churches and they are doing a wonderful job.

And may I add, the evacuees are also doing a magnificent job in integrating into Houston and quickly restarting their lives. Simply magnificent.
