"But it is not conjecture that some people died when they stayed behind due to their pets."

And all these years, I thought Darwin was wrong. Oh well, the gene pool needs a good purge every now and then.

Someone with more knowledge may want to check out OP and make sure he is not a DU troll.

"Most of them will end up euthanized."

Piffle.

People all over the country are already calling shelters begging to adopt any pets who aren't claimed.

They love the idea of having a "disaster survivor" in the family.

I see it all the time locally.

Some stray dog or cat beats the odds and people nearly mob the SPCA trying to adopt it.

Try again.

And I would imagine that trained soldiers have sense enough to fashion temporary muzzles.

[who even mentioned soldiers rescuing them anyway? we're talking privately funded civilian animal rescuers here]

And they're ALL paying to do it out of their OWN pockets, risking their own lives and wasting their own time so what's it to you?

What it is to me is a diversion of resources and questionable agents operating in a disaster area.

"And it is not like it is being done at taxpayer expense.

Yea right. I've had to shoot my own dog before, wasn't pleasant, but it was better that letting it suffer. It's not a sporting even either. Nice dramatic touch though.

You bet. It's America and the private party has the right to do this. That does not mean they are not misguided, stupid, and wrong. Because the focus on saving pets when people are still in trouble is sickening to this proud American.

My father was as tough as they come and an avid hunter, but it bothered him a great deal to kill an animal raise to trust humans.

What makes you think it wouldn't bother any of us, too? If you're really farm-raised, you know the mindset.

Bottom line: FR is being used to promote a left wing extremist website under false pretence.

I have reported this thread as such and await further developments.

As far as the subject at hand, the irrational approach of some of you here who put saving dogs as more important than humans... well... such thought is a fundamental philosophy of the left wing extremists in this great country I call home. I suspect anyone who casts their lots with that philosophy as being one of them.

When posting a story or editorial it is important to use the original title to avoid duplication. The title you created has been changed to the correct published title.

Also do not change the source name. The source name you used has been changed to the correct source name.

"questionable agents"

The ASPCA and HSUS are "questionable agents"??

Since when?

Since they -only- deal with animals and all their funds are devoted soley to animals, exactly what -human- "resources" are being diverted?

No, it's not 100% left wing. It's an open site that anyone can post any petition to. But even if it was, so what? This isn't about that website, this is about signing the petition for the animals.

But if you're referring to the second page that pops up when you sign the petition (the one asking which things you want to be notified about), I saw that too and thought "oh no, what is this all about" -- but then I saw one of the options is for Republican Party information.

Oh well, the gene pool needs a good purge every now and then.

I agree with you there. But I think it should be purged of people who don't have compassion for the animals that we are responsible for. Those pets didn't ask to be locked inside homes or chained on chains that were too short to escape the rising waters. We are responsible for them, and that responsibility includes their welfare, just like we are responsible for our children and our elderly. It doesn't have to be one OR the other.

Sorry, but I have to call you out on this one.

1. It IS a 100% radical left wing extremist site. Anyone can check it out and see that I am right.

2. You were worried enough about that fact that you felt you had to hide the URL in your linking at the top of your post.

I have lurked here long enough to wonder if they need to call in the kitties. Just wondering you know.

They are questionable agents because they are not trained and equipted to operate in a disaster area...particularly one of this character.

Perhaps I'm merely assuming that you speak like that to "pet nuts" in the "real world" but somehow, I seriously doubt that you do.

That was not a personal threat.
Just advice that, in hindsight, was probably not even remotely necessary.

Your ad hominem vulgarities began this, if you'll recall.

If that timeline confuses you, please note whose posts were pulled and whose were not.

They're not left wingers. They're just misguided by puppy love. My next door neighbor is the same way. Her husband and I talked about it last week. Sadly, he said she'd be one of the people who'd refuse to leave her dogs. So, he'd have to pack up the kids and leave her.

Have you ever tried putting a scared, unfamiliar dog into a helecopter with no doors? guess what happens when it bites the soldier and he lets go of it at a few hundred feet above the ground.

Yeah, and have you ever seen a dog fly a helicopter? Not a pretty sight, especially if the dog isn't trained.

We know their true agenda, and it's not about the animals for them. So it's no surprise they are dramatically ABSENT from all the Katrina stories.

Wow! I can't believe my posts were removed!

I'm the most conservative, Republican person I know up here in the liberal hellhole of Boston, and I got bleeped! Besides which, I've gotten the shit beaten out of me for opening my mouth about being a Republican.

There was no profanity, just honesty, nothing anti-conservative, nothing racist, just pro-human, and anti MSM, anti PETA-based CNN coverage. Oh well.

I hope the families that have lost loved ones (HUMAN BEINGS) appreciate your efforts to rescue stray pets BEFORE the remains of their families have even been identified.

You might consider that these people LEFT THEIR PETS to save themselves and their HUMAN families.

I'm glad I stopped contributing money.

Wonder why he felt it was necessary to hide the true source of the link?

FYI, "He" (me) didn't "feel it was necessary to hide the true source of the link" -- I was simply way too exhausted to do everything correctly at this late hour. Furthermore, the "true source" of MY source for the petition was from Petfinder.com, where I found the link, where many of the lost and found animals from Katrina are being posted. I wasn't trying to HIDE anything, I was just too tired to figure it all out and do it right when I made the post (thinking those details weren't particularly important anyway).

" You might consider that these people LEFT THEIR PETS to save themselves and their HUMAN families."

That says a whole lot about these people, and little nilly crying because he left his dog on a hwy. If these animals were really just a member of the familly, it would be like chaining their kid to the porch then leaving it behind. These are drama stories to get you to donate. This care2 site is a enviroweenie site, save the rainforrests, global warming, anti hunting Lefty BS. And you gave them money? I'd feel used, if I were you.
