The Old Catholic Church

The Old Catholic Church An Old Catholic Community

Do they call you a cafeteria Catholic? Have you drifted away from the Church over dogma, politics or disagreement over doctrine? Do you disagree with the doctrines on the place of women in the church? Would a truly Apostolic, sacramental and liturgical church that welcomes all, and honors scripture, tradition and the gifts of human reason fulfill your spiritual needs?

The Old Catholic Church was founded by the Utrecht Union in 1871. The Old Catholic Bishops were locked out of the first Vatican Counsel when they made it clear that they would not support the doctrine on Papal infallibility, The Old Catholic Church believes that correct doctrine is arrived at by the work of the Holy Spirit in the entire Church, not in the guise of one man. Thus we hold that only valid counsels, or synods, of the entire Apostolic Church, such as the seven historical counsels, may assert dogma binding on all Catholics. Beyond that the studied, prayerful wisdom of each believer is to be our guide.

Rejecting such man made dogma we joyfully include women in our leadership, welcome all Christians to our sacraments and allow for great freedom of thought and expression.

We are a spiritual church, our mission is to aid our congregations to attain a deeper union with God, and to explore the great joy and happiness that can be attained in a spiritual, prayerful life. Our only litmus test is the Apostles and Nicene creeds. Regardless of your gender, politics or opinions on the place of science and religion in our lives, you will be welcome at our table and in our circle of love. Our Church welcomes all Christians who seek a spiritual, sacramental and religious community that respects reason as we study God's Grace. We seek to provide a spiritual home to Old Catholics, lapsed or separated Roman Catholics and Christians who want the Eucharist to be a vibrant part of their worship. Our worship is grounded in tradition and faith, the seven sacraments. Our Cannon is the Holy Bible, our understanding of that cannon is based on reason and science.

We embrace the Universe that God made just as it is, with the evolution of life and orderly nature. The Bible is rendered no less sacred, central and perfect because it uses allegory and metaphor to teach. We do not ask our adherents to believe that the world was made in seven days, but rather that the world was made by a loving and perfect God.

Our special mission is to provide a community for Roman Catholics, separated from the church by divorce, birth control, sexual orientation or rejection of dogma. No one should be cut off from God's community over dogma. We offer a joyful, welcoming, spiritual Old Catholic Church with sacramental liturgy and Apostolic Succession - without the burden of adherence to the Bishop of Rome's Curia. Has it been to long since you spoke with God? Come home to St. Fechin's.

Our community does not accept the teaching of papal infallibility and, therefore, are independent of the Pope's jurisdiction. We honor the Seven Ecumenical Councils, and both the Celtic and Roman Rite. We accord the Bishop of Rome respect, but nothing more. We are not subject to, or in communion with, the Roman Catholic Church.

Our Church follows the doctrine of the Ecumenical Apostolic Church Diocese.

1. Priests and bishops are permitted to marry. We believe that Priestly celibacy is a matter of church discipline, and fit for the cloistered life, but not a pastoral life within the community. 2. Women are encouraged to be more fully involved in the ministry of the Church. As Saint Paul writes, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." We joyously Ordain women to all of the holy orders 3. Divorced people who remarry are able to be reconciled to the church through the grace of God and, therefore, are not excluded from the sacraments. Therefore, a divorced person may remarry with the blessing of the Church. 4. Artificial contraception is an issue of conscience between husband, wife and God. No Catholic should be separated from the Sacraments because of their choices of when, and how to form a family. 5. Each Catholic is an equal part of the Church. Therefore, lay people are encouraged to play a prominent role in the Church. 6. No Christian is excluded from the sacramental ministry. All baptized Christians are invited to participate in the worship and sacraments of the Church.

We are Catholic and rational - we Worship God because it is Right and Proper that we do so. We reject any Cannon, Law or authority that in any way contradicts the New Covenant, that we love one another as we love ourselves. "By this shall you know them. "

We reject the authority of Priests over the lives of believers, a Priest is ordained to do nothing more, or less, than perform the Sacraments. We do not Judge, nor claims any right to do so.

"You will know them by their fruits"

If you wish to "protest" against the Church fine. The word for that is protestant. You insult your own intelligence by continuing to have the word Catholic in your name. There is nothing Catholic about you.

You insult your own intelligence by continuing to have the word Catholic in your name.

*I am not sure what you mean. (I am so dumb I'd have to go to night school in hopes of being educated to the point where I'd be considered retarded).

There is nothing Catholic about you.

*Now you are sounding like my confessor

No Catholic should be separated from the Sacraments because of their choices of when, and how to form a family.

No absolutes.
Family: six women, ten men, some homosexuals, some bisexuals, some transsexuals, babies by whomever.
Choice.

This is the kind of press that appeals to young people or people who want to do exactly what they want, because it feels good, and they want to be VALIDATED for it.

RELATIVE MORALITY.....just what Pope Benedict has warned against for decades.
