Mary Landrieu: School Bus Failure Bush's Fault

Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005 10:27 p.m. EDT Mary Landrieu: School Bus Failure Bush's Fault

It was the Bush administration's fault that hundreds of city school buses weren't dispatched to evacuate the hurricane-battered residents of New Orleans two weeks ago before floods swamped the city, Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu said Sunday.

Asked on "Fox News Sunday" why New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin failed to follow the city's evacuation plan and press the buses into service, Landrieu blamed Bush administration cuts in mass transit funding.

"Mayor Nagin and most mayors in this country have a hard time getting their people to work on a sunny day, let alone getting them out of the city in front of a hurricane," she said. "And it's because this administration and administrations before them do not understand the difficulties that mayors . . . face." Landrieu then added: "In other words, this administration did not believe in mass transit. They won't even get people to work on a sunny day, let alone getting them out."

Saying she was unwilling to criticize Louisiana officials, the Louisiana Democrat insisted that Mayor Nagin's evacuation efforts had been a smashing success.

"Because the mayor evacuated the city, we had the best evacuation . . . of any evacuation I've seen. I'm 50 years old; I've never seen one any better," Landrieu told FNS.

That prompted FNS host Chris Wallace to remind: "But there were a hundred thousand people left in the city."

Landrieu once again blamed the White House, saying:

"They did [have] a hundred thousand people left in the city because this federal government won't support cities to evacuate people, whether it's from earthquakes, tornadoes, or hurricanes. And that's the truth."

"please tell me that Jabbar is not being charged with any crime. "

I don't know. That's why I was asking. The reports I heard said the prosecutors in LA wanted to. They claimed he stole the bus for one thing.

Yet ..the MSM will not question what she said..Liberals and Dems have a FREE PASS to say absoultly ANYTHING they want in the media ..I mean ANYTHING , without a peep from the MSM . No matter how absurd or untrue or irresponsible the statement , if it's anti Bush it's accepted as gospel. We have to counter this . It's gotten way out of hand

If it wasn't Bush's fault why did they toss Michael Brown so quick? I still haven't heard any specific charges of incompetence at FEMA.

Yea, think how many buses could be here if Bush had spent more money on mass transit.

I heard Anderson Cooper questioning Police Chief Compass about this Saturday night and I think I heard Compass say the fleet had been used once, but there wasn't time to use it again or something silly like that. Cooper gently pressed, but of course did not want to embarrass the police chief who sounded vague and ill-informed.

I just thought about what Mary Landrieu said on Fox News. I know, I know. One could get harmed that way, but I took the risk. She said, "this federal government won't support cities to evacuate people, whether it's from earthquakes, tornadoes, or hurricanes. And that's the truth."

Okie, dokie. Let's examine that statement. NOBODY evacuates from tornadoes. You get in the basement and pray your basement survives. NOBODY evacuates from earthquakes. You get in a door jamb or a bathroom when the shaking starts and home the roof doesn't fall on you.

This woman is beyond dumb. She is gross public dumb, as they say in the Army. The only evacuation possible is before a hurricane. And that takes buses and drivers. Best information is that the school bus drivers evacuated, without their buses. Though Nagin has come up with a different explanation, that most of them are women who were "too afraid to drive the buses."

Odds are, Nagin is lying again, just like Landrieu did in this interview. But didn't enough cops take a powder (just like the Mayor did) to drive all the buses? Lies piled on lies. Stupidity piled on stupidity.

Every time a Louisiana Democrat opens his or her mouth, the total I.Q. of the Eastern United States drops a point and a half. If people hadn't died here, and if all Americans weren't going to be stuck with the bill, this would be the best comedy of the new season.

Mary, Mary, quite contrary
How do your tall tales grow?
With blame game lies, and rolling eyes
And school buses all in a row

the police chief who sounded vague and ill-informed.

On hearing Chief Compass on TV the other nite, my husband commented that he didn't seem like a police officer, but more like a street thug.

I didn't have the heart to tell him how Mayor-I-am-not-a-drug-addict came off even worse.

Looks like Mary is going to give Boxer a run for the title of dumbest Senator.

His defense argument...some of his neighbors found Nikes and plasma screen TVs 'useful' for their evacuation plans...whats wrong then w/taking a bus? Jabbar was evacuating from a disenfranchised neighborhood no doubt.

Maybe they want to charge him, because he makes soooo many others look bad by their own lack of inaction.

"most of them are women who were "too afraid to drive the buses."

Oh, so they were lazy, shiftless, good-for-nothin' (and 70% black) per Senator Landrieu, and they were stereotypical weak and fearful women, per Mayor Nagin.

My, my. Such progressive attitudes these Democrats have.

I've watched Landrieu in a few interviews and press conferences and lately I've noticed a nervous tic she has whenever Nagin's mentioned.

Talk about a creepy liar.

"In other words, this administration did not believe in mass transit.

Mass transit has nothing to do with school buses. School buses are part of the education system, not the transit system.

Not deranged, Jorge:

Scrambling, clawing, scraping the bottom of the barrel. Doing whatever she can to divert attention away from his disgusting Political Machine and onto the Bush Administration.

Overall, I give Chris Matthews high, high marks for b!tch slapping Landrieu on nation wide television.

Jack.

Politicians have now become the lowest life form on earth . Our side is getting worse too.Why the hell do any of us give these idiots jobs. Term limits , low pay and accountability is needed across the board. I think we need to start from scratch again and re define what we expect from politicians. This woman is a prime example of how low we've gone.3/4 of the US govt are blithering idiots .

"too afraid to drive the buses."

I can't remember when I have heard a more patronizing comment...what black women can't drive? But Mary will get a pass on it...
