... Those who control the legislative process (i.e., Sacramento Democrats) seem to have no concept of the nation's founding principles, such as limited government, personal responsibility, the rule of law, free enterprise. Even when they quote the founding fathers, they know only the words and not the meanings.
(snip)
Approximately 400 bills reached the floor of the Assembly in the final four-day frenzy, with only about 45 of them authored by Republicans. One bill after another ... tax, spend, regulate and impose the liberal Democratic social vision on the state.
There's the plan to raise the state's minimum wage, with the sponsors oblivious to how such increases actually reduce the number of lower-paying jobs. There's a proposal mandating gender-equity in the workplace, which would allow anyone with a grievance, real or perceived, to sue his or her employer. Enabling more lawsuits, actually, seems to be a big Democratic priority. There are the bills to let workers sue their employers over labor concerns or over environmental concerns. There are the bills that let consumers sue businesses.
There are the curriculum mandates - e.g., requiring students to be taught in their native language, in apparent violation of Proposition 227, or mandating the teaching of tolerance. There's a bill that would trigger a tax audit of companies that have labor violations. There are bans on junk faxes and on certain kinds of car loans. There is a bill that creates a reparations fund for Mexican-Americans unfairly repatriated to Mexico decades ago. And don't forget the attempt to provide driver's licenses to those in the state illegally, and the endless proposals to add more regulations on every known activity.

California is such a wasteland.
We may be headed the way of Louisiana. Our own bozos failed to pass levee upgrades but apparently fell over each other to approve gay marriage and licenses for illegals. Thank God for Arnie's veto pen. But still, the levees are crumbling. I can see one from where I am sitting right now (e.g. along SF Bay) and it is not long for this world.
Hey, hey. We are not. We have an out of control government but we are not a wasteland.
More tales of legislative meltdown in the once Golden State.
Of course they don't...they are all socialists.
Of course, the LA Times is always an option (yeah...).
I'm sure Kansas has problems all its own. But I'll never call it a 'wasteland'.
California ping
TIGGY!!!!
Let me back up & read the troll's remarks.
BRB!
not a troll really...just misguided.
And then have THIS in your TAGLINE? ....My heros have always been cowboys-Reagan and Bush
Um. Methinks you've been around corn and wheat (or whatever the heck you people grow there...) too long.
Not misguided. Small minded. :)
What a dumb-ass thing to say. California is a gorgeous prosperous state, that people are tripping over each other to live in. One out of every six Americans lives here.
I've been to Kansas. I believe the tourist first sight I saw was an 18-wheel-truck propped up vertically. Are there any more sights that I missed?
California is presently in the grip of the extreme liberals who control the Democrat Party. Our state has been subject to wild swings in partisan control for many decades. Republicans have been in charge before and we will be again.
Yeah, it isn't Kansas anymore. Airheaded posts like yours with drivel about the home state of Free Republic don't do much to help the problem. California is a huge state with huge challenges. It's dominated by Flower Children liberals from San Francisco and Los Angeles who've gerrymandered election districts so they can't be voted out. Sadly, Pubbies have contributed to the process.
If you want to do something positive instead of name-call, send money to Gov. Schwarzennegger to help publicize the special election measure to take redistricting responsibility away from the legislature. Maybe his solution isn't perfect but it would go a long way toward resolving the problems mentioned in the article above.
I noticed that the San Fernando Valley's Number One project, the 405/101 interchange, was left hanging as the Sacramento Group of Subcultures pushed forward Gay Marriage, Illegal Alien Drivers Licenses, Health Care for 800,000 Illeal Aliens, Payment to those deported under a Federal Program over 70 years ago...
This state is F*#&*D up!
From the wasteland: One of your tag line heros was OUR GOVERNOR. HaHaHa
With the bill one vote shy of passage, she went to Republican Guy Houston's desk and pushed the "yes" button so that a vote would be electronically recorded. The normally mild-mannered Assemblyman Bob Huff, the Diamond Bar Republican who sits next to Houston, saw this and had to push Migden's arm away, then undo the vote. Huff told me that Migden's excuse - that she thought the desk was a Democrat's - is bogus. She has a reputation for doing this, he said, and even if it had been a Democrat's desk, a senator has no right to cast a vote in the Assembly chambers. Assemblyman Todd Spitzer said Migden might have committed a felony, although he argued for a reprimand rather than prosecution. Even that's unlikely, since Midgen is chairwoman of the committee that dispenses the cash.
Lovely.
Spending, spending and more spending...
Unfortunately, we have a governor is ignorant of the "line item veto!"
Like all politicians, he talked the talk but couldn't walk the walk...
Probably Aunty Em's farm (which is the gateway to munchkinland).
Sure hope you're lookin' down on it...
Actually, last I heard, more folk were movin' outta the PRK than were (legally) movin' in. Might be wrong, though.
"I've been to Kansas. I believe the tourist first sight I saw was an 18-wheel-truck propped up vertically. Are there any more sights that I missed?"
You mean you missed the CLASSIC humor poster of the snow skier standing in the flat wheat field with the caption: SKI KANSAS?!?
Kansas is a good state. But California Republicans STILL outdeliver, in popular votes for elections...
And I've lived in both states.
It all depends on what indicators you are looking at. There is no exact answer.
My home has more than doubled in value since 1998 and is approaching triple what I paid for it. The ame is happening all over the state. It's slowed down a bit, but not by much.
Ain't she special!

CA: 'Ghost vote' spooks the Assembly-Senator pushes button of absent GOP member, provoking outrage.
Hey, from Kansas to all the good Californians that I angered. I know it's tough living out there with all you have to put up with. Keep fighting the battle. Your are surrounded by a lot of foolish and misguided American citizens who vote Democratic and lean communistic, and seem to hate the rights and priveleges they are afforded by being Amereican. Yes, Reagan was a GREAT Californian and thank God for him. And yes, I love Reagan and W both. And yes, I am in California a lot beacuse I married a California son who has left for Kansas and we are both attorneys here with family there. My husband grew up in Berkeley during the flower power days which contributed to his being pretty conservative. So, Hollywood, Los Angeles, San Fransisco Mendcino, Napa Valley, high cost of living and all that aside, I still think SF is the most beautiful city I've ever been in. I've heard all about and seen Berkeley High, well, I couldn't possibly explain it all to all of you, any more than you all could explain it all to me. I was excited and pleased when Arnold took the governorship. I certainly didn't mean it personally to any of you. So, May the Force be With You.
EEEEEEEEEK!
I can't repeat that word!
the 405 freeway was the biggest project in Socal...now its back to the drawing board.
I detest Dems.
One word: Veto
Nice post. I guess you won't go callin' it a wasteland again without thinkin' twice, huh? We have an itchy trigger finger around these parts. LOL.
That sure doesn't sound like Detroit (where ya can't give the real estate away...).
Gotta wonder who can afford those homes, too!
Hah. Yes, indeed: the Democratic philosophy. Voters are infants, ie.e voiceless ones. They NEED "adults"--namely them--to speak for the voter, to say the way he ought to have voted.
I grew up in Kansas and now live in CA. Trust me,
Kansas is a wasteland. Living in Kansas is NOT living.
Kansas is a wasteland.
How so? Just curious. I've only been there once.
With all the crap bills authored by the donkies; perhaps HAZMAT should be called to clean out the place.
Kansas is one big wheet field. Living in Kansas is NOT living. (in truth most of Kansas is normal, boring rural america). Johnson county on the other hand is a WASTELAND of cookie cutter 'burbs full of plastic people.
It's rural boring. Not much action going on. Now, my very best friend is still there, and loves it, and I don't get it. I could never go back. The culture is very different from CA. By culture, I mean the mind-set.
How many high tech companies come out of Kansas? How many have satellite offices in Kansas? I'm afraid I see it as an oil 'n gas center w/little ingenuity.
I love the stimulation that living in the CA mix brings, even if I disagree with a lot of it.
I lived most of my life in California, but I won't be going back. I view it the way many immigrants viewed the Old World, a place full of narrow horizons and senseless turmoil.
Interesting. My brother and sister both lived in Topeka at different times with their families working for Payless shoes (my sister's spouse and my brother). They enjoyed it, but seem to enjoy Oregon more except for the rain.
