Well I guess that this is a signal that there are no other crime, economic, or safety concerns left in michigan. It should now be a utopia.

The 'pubs have majorities in the state house and senate.
It seem's it was important enough to them to send a signal (although I don't know why).
Granholio can only sign legislation that makes it to her desk.

well, kids can get into R rated movies too....just by buying tickets to the wrong movie. At some point PARENTS have to become more informed. I am my house police, and don't need the govt to do it....thank you very much.

I am surprised she didn't add another 50 cent tax on a pack of cigarettes to help pay for the cost of enforcing the new laws.

Typical feel-good legislation, so that Rat politicians can beat their chests.

>>> "Making sure that our children are protected is an essential function of government," Granholm said. <<<

This will not go over well with Darth [Ruth] Bader Ginsberg. Ginsberg thinks the age of consent should be 12.

We are the police in ours, too. Even the TV. I know video games are pretty bad in today's age (I've seen some of them!) Our kids do not get them nor rent them. But how about Family Guy on at 9pm EST on Sunday nights! Now that is a show children should NOT be allowed to watch! ok, our kids will not be watching it.

(rated M for Mature or NC-17)

NO! A game rated AO is equivalent to NC-17. A game rated M is equivalent to an R rating!

Children as young as age nine were able to purchase adult-rated video games... nearly half of the time.

And the rest got their overindulgent parents to buy the games for them. Should we fine and/or imprison parents who buy these games for their kids?

By the way, anyone know the punishment imposed on violators? The press release doesn't say.

Is she up in '06? This is the kind of grandstanding that politicians do just before an election. Particularly liberal ones whose constituencies don't like stuff like this.

Thank you.

If only other parents took the time to actually be parents that you take, we wouldn't be having this conversation now.

The Canadian Trash in the governor's mansion now wants to tack a 6% sales or lease tax on the movies that cinema owners either buy or rent. The theatres are passing out petitions to fight this legislation, saying that it could increase ticket prices as much as $.50 to $1.00.

What?? Let me see...WE, the price-gouged consumer should be worried about the finances of theatre owners who feel happy charging us $2.50 for a small soda and $5 for a bag of popcorn NOW want our help in keeping ticket prices down?

Yeah, right.

Yep, she's up for re-election in '06 and her approval ratings are in the tank. Seems Michigan voters don't like the 7.1% unemployment rate, which some papers say is the highest in the country.

The woman IS a moron.
