Bush Takes Full Responsiblity for Katrina Blunders

By Lara Jakes Jordan

Associated Press Writer Published: Sep 13, 2005

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush said Tuesday that "I take responsibility" for failures in dealing with Hurricane Katrina and said the disaster raised broader questions about the government's ability to respond to natural disasters as well as terror attacks.

"Katrina exposed serious problems in our response capability at all levels of government," Bush said at joint White House news conference with the president of Iraq.

"To the extent the federal government didn't fully do it's job right, I take responsibility," Bush said.

The president was asked whether people should be worried about the government's ability to handle another terrorist attack given failures in responding to Katrina.

You got it. He is not up for re-(s)election. Take the blame, and demand a congressional investigation with facts on the table. Odd how the opposition party says they really did not want that.

FWIW, I think it's less about being a brilliant move than being an honorable guy :)

Headline is, "Bush: 'I take responsibility' for U.S. failures after Katrina"

The support for the headline is this quote of President Bush during his presser with the new president of Iraq.

Katrina exposed serious problems in our response capability at all levels of government and to the extent the federal government didn't fully do its job right, I take responsibility ...

Something Clinton is STILL unable to do - still making excuses for his lousy run as president.

I am the President and I will take the blame and we will find out where we went wrong.

as opposed to Bill Clinton who never accepted responsibility for any of his action. Anybody remember Waco, Monica,...

Really, if he REALLY threw himself on his sword he should commit suicide, or at least resign.

"The buck stops here." If the Feds screwed up (and it seems like they did), the big cheese takes the blame. Good for him!

That does nothing to absolve Blanco, Nagin, Landrieu and the rest of the Louisiana bunglers. In fact, it puts pressure on them to take the blame for local failures.

It shuts the RATS up. Good move on his part. Now the RATS can't focus on the President and will be forced to go back to Mayor and Gov.

It is a big mistake.

Knowing the Dems the way we do, they will keep repeating this admission over and over and over again for the next 50 years.

Before he takes full responsibility for the N.O. fiasco, he should politely explain

HOW THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES SPELLS OUT STATE'S RIGHTS AND BARS THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FROM BUSTING INTO SOVEREIGN STATES WITHOUT PERMISSION OF STATE LEADERS.

This is really getting tiresome.

Investigate. Sure. Just don't expect anyone to catch the hell for it they so richly deserve. Just like Sandy "My Pants are Full" Berger, they'll get a slap on the wrist in the interest of "bipartisanship".

Bank on it. Instead of "neo-conservative", or RINO, we should call this "spaghetti conservatism". The inability to complete the act of destroying your political foes due to a lack of a spine.

I really, really like GWB. I think he has a good heart. My husband just met him on the Iwo Jima, yesterday or the day before and he says he is a great guy. He is being the stand up person that he is. Now lets see if Nagin and Blanco will accept responsibility for their failures....

This is what a leader and a statesman does. This, of course, is unfamiliar behavior nowdays.
