To understand resistance, put yourself in Iraqis’ shoes
The Columbia, Missouri Daily Tribune ^ | Tuesday, September 13, 2005 | Mark Speckman

Posted on 09/13/2005 12:41:10 PM PDT by rface

Dear Editor, the Tribune:

How can you think that only terrorists, loyalists and extremists fight the American soldiers? What would you do if China occupied this country and you were randomly searched and jailed and your family members and friends were killed?

The insurgents are like me and you. They defend their homeland. The foreign occupiers insult them, shoot up mosques, steal their oil, shoot up hospitals and leave cancer-causing radioactive pieces of ammunition lying all over the place. The citizens have little electricity, clean water, medicine, food, oil and, most of all, security. At any time they could be shot by a soldier, a criminal or an Iraqi policeman. Ever been jailed for something unjust? Harassed by a cop? Had a vehicle-mounted machinegun pointed at your head?

I dont know about you, but I get really pissed off when a cop pats me down, feels my crotch and thinks he can do whatever he wants because he represents the law and has a gun. Imagine a whole army doing that in your country. Imagine jets screaming overhead, never knowing when a bomb is going to drop next to you. Imagine watching your child being blown apart. Imagine riding in a car and getting killed by a couple of 20-year-olds manning a barricade. How many of you would fight back? I mean, what are you going to do, just submit to all of the humiliation, death and rape of your country?

Mark Speckman

Mark Speckman of Columbia began experimenting with audio creation in high school. He now creates electronic music using his PC and Reason, an audio interface that allows him to record musical instruments to his computer program.

“I’d like to have a band,” he says, “but I’d rather be the band.”

Read it and weep....another moonbat.

While the authory's attempt to empathize with his fellow man is laudable, perhaps someone should point out that the vast majority of the 'insurgents' are simply another contingent of foreign occupiers, and unlike our American forces, want to stay indefinitely to impose brutal 7th century laws on Iraq, rather then set up a democratic constitution and leave (with the possible exception of any invited to stay on leased bases).

Perhaps someone might also point out to him that the majority of the Iraqi insurgents hope to reestablish themselves at the helm of a government which perpetually subjects their fellow citizens to the sort of indignities he describes, and worse, as was done under the former Ba'athist regime.

How would I feel if 41 hadn't left office in 2001, but instead held on to power illegally? Wacos and Arkancide became commonplace. What if rape rooms and toturariums were run by totally out of control federal officers? And then some nation invaded and was making moves to return my government to me. How would I feel? I would be grateful. And shocked. The US is the only nation that does that shtick.

The insurgents are former Sunni goons who engaged in brutal minority rule over larger Shia and Kurd populations.

If this were minority rule white South Africans bombing blacks in South Africe to try and regain power, I doubt this liberal pinhead would speak so glowingly of them.

But it's the exact same situation - except that the Baathists were far more brutal than Apartheid...

And, to expand on your point, Mark Speckman probably doesn't have the balls to defend his homeland or anything else. If someone took over our country, he'd probably be the first to wave the white flag and say it was for our own good, we deserved it, etc.

BAGHDAD, Aug 21 (KUNA) -- Up to 281 people have been arrested around Iraq for being implicated in terror-related attacks ... among those arrested were 80 Egyptians, 64 Syrians, 41 Sudanese, 22 Saudis, 17 Jordanians, 10 Palestinians, seven Libyans, six Tunisians, as well as 12 Iranians, four Turks and one British national.

264 foreigners - leaving 17 presumed to be Iraqis.

Last week another 200 were killed or captured in one city. 150 were foreigners. Mark Speckman = ignorant moron

The insurgents are like me and you.

Interesting, I have never beheaded anyone, or set a roadside or car bomb to blow up innocent women and children. Apparently you have.

The citizens have little electricity, clean water, medicine, food, oil and, most of all, security.

The coalition has rebuilt the electrical grid and more kilowatts are available for more hours of the day and month than prewar. The coalition has rebuilt the water and sewer system and now provide more fresh water and waste treatment than prewar. They have opened up hospitals all across the country and also provide services at their base facilities. They have built or repaired hundreds of schools. They have provided food, re-opened irrigation channels and re-flooded the marshes in the south that were drained by Sadaam to punish the Shites. They have insured that every dollar of oil money is turned over the the Iraqi government and worked around the world to get old debts forgiven.

On the other hand, the insurgents have blown up electrical and sanitary infrastructure. They blow up oil pipelines. They torture and kill Iraqis who take advantage of coalition services. They have not opened a single school, hospital, service facility, fed the hungry or cared for the weak. They have killed more Iraqi civilians in their bombings than the coalition has in collateral damage.

Imagine watching your child being blown apart.

It isn't hard to imagine because we saw the suicide bomber intentionally drive into the group of children getting candy from the American soldiers. We've seen the results of the car bombs and the suicide bombers that have killed hundreds and hundreds of innocent Iraqi women and children.

I mean, what are you going to do, just submit to all of the humiliation, death and rape of your country?

No. And that is why the Iraqis are fighting back against the insurgents and trying to reclaim their country for these brutal, heartless, soulless Islamic extremists. Fortunately, they are gaining ground and the day that Iraqis will be free to enjoy the liberty provided by the coalitions' sacrifice grows closer, day by day.

You can let the article speak for itself...unless of course you are actually interested in the truth, in which case the article is less than worthless. It is profane.

I have had this conversation with my relatives! Folks like this do not want to be bothered with facts regarding the previous dictatorship, genocide, and oppression of Saddam's regime. That the terrorists are fighting to establish a totalitarian government means absolutely nothing to them. Rather than putting themselves in Iraqi shoes, they put Iraqi shoes on their ideology.

I believe the whole post fails to understand the roll of the Iraqi government. With a request they could end the "occupation", but they don't. The real question is how come the average Iraqi does not support ending the violence and allowing the democratic resolution of their differences. If I were an Iraqi, I would be fighting the insurgents side by side with the occupiers. Of course this would make me a target of the insurgents. The truth is that from the Iraqi's position, there is a lot of fear, but it is not fear of the Americans. Nor is the "humiliation" that hard to understand.

I've been imprisoned, beaten, had my wife kidnapped and raped in front of me. My kids can't go to school because I'm not a Ba'athist and they're playing in the dirt because our town doesn't have any infrastructure because it isn't Tikrit or Baghdad. I haven't a job or hope and my biggest concern is not to attract the attention of the secret police again because I don't want my kids to be orphans.
