Constitutional Amendment
Posted on 09/15/2005 6:31:32 AM PDT by dogdayz
You guys are pretty smart so I thought I would ask you a question.
Should a Constitutional Amendment be enacted to allow for the recall of a President such as Grey Davis was recalled in California?
I mean when 65% of the country realizes a President is a failure, shouldn't there be a way to remove him?

No, the collective American people are not smart enough to recall a President. What's sad is that the Congress isn't much smarter! Just suck it up for 4 years!

There is a recall of sorts.
Read The Constitution of the United States and look into impeachment.

The answer to your question is: No.
Should we be able to impeach people who think that 100% - 45% is 65%? Sure.

No. That would be like a parliamentary style government, which we do not have, for lots of good reasons.
If a majority of the people's elected representatives (in congress) are ever so totally out-of-phase with the executive, they have the power of the purse (they control all spending) and the legislative power to move the executive in their direction. With congressional majorities beginning in 1994, we did it often to Clinton.

I don't think an amendment would help anyway troll. The Democrats in LA violated the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 14th amendments and nobody batted an eye.
