Blanco Confesses: "I Should Have Called the Military"

Breaking News from NewsMax.com

Kathleen Blanco: I Should Have Called the Military

Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco's abrupt decision Wednesday night to take responsibility for her state's inadequate response to the Hurricane Katrina disaster followed an inadvertent confession that was caught on camera where Blanco admitted she blew it.

"I really should have called for the military," Blanco said, while chatting with her press secretary in between TV interviews. "I really should have started that in the first call."

Unbeknownst to Blanco, her bombshell acknowledgment was recorded on a network satellite feed, and by Tuesday the clip was getting wide exposure in Louisiana news broadcasts.

In the early days of the Katrina crisis, disaster management experts repeatedly blamed the failure to send in the National Guard for the city's descent into chaos.

Most observers blamed the White House for the blunder - a misconception that was thoroughly dispelled by the governor's inadvertent confession.

Some say Blanco's blooper was responsible for the abrupt change of tone in her speech Wednesday night to the Louisiana legislature.

Where earlier she and her aides had openly blamed the Bush administration for bungling Katrina rescue efforts, Blanco announced: "The buck stops here, and as your governor, I take full responsibility."

Just as surprising were Blanco's words of praise for the White House: "I want the people of Louisiana to know that we have a friend and a partner in President George W. Bush. I thank you, Mr. President."

I Just received this in my email, from NewsMax "Breaking News email service". I know other articles she claimed full responsability, however networks have not carried her actual words: "I really should have called for the military," which, according to the article have appeared on local Louisiana stations. Hmmmmm? Now this clears up why she has changed her tune. Her "blooper" was caught on tape. LOL

"..a misconception that was thoroughly dispelled by the governor's inadvertent confession.."

That is, dispelled among those who pay attention.

I'm curious as to just what this liberal/socialist knob would have called the U.S. military: "pigs"; "baby-killers"; "fascists"; "war-mongers"........

This broad is a prime and living example of what is wrong with putting RATs into office.

Anywhere there is a story on the blame game, I look for a photograph of the buses underwater. If it's not there among the pictures I have no need to look any further.

Your ability to reason is rather lacking.

The President accepted blame for any failures of the federal government.

To date, there have been precious few valid complaints.

However, many people are going to be sorry they get what they wished for.

The feds coming into a state and taking control is NOT such a great idea.

He's gonna have one big ole good day! :)

No, most mainstream media blamed the White House for the blunder. The observers knew better.

The President accepted blame for any failures of the federal government.

When was that? I heard him accept responsibility. Those who understand the English language know that there is a very large difference between the two.

This is what nails it that this Blanco broad is stupid. There is a camera 2 feet from her face and she makes this confession to her press person sitting near her. I understand that the audio portion was not from a standard reporter's mic in her face and it was some secondary cameraman's mic, but how stupid is she. But I'm glad she did it.

Given the scandalous behaviour of Governor McGreevy, I would welcome the feds taking over.

I doubt the people of Mississippi think the same way. And that probably goes for every other RED state as well.

Those of us in blue states pray for the FEDS.

President Bush was being more of a mensch and statesman than a cowardly politician -- which is not surprising. In this regard Bush stands leagues ahead of his sloven and corrupt detractors. Although I have had misgivings about his aversion to "go Roman" on them, I respect his call. The second sentence of your post makes no sense whatsoever.

""I really should have called for the military," Blanco said, "

You can squelch the truth for a time but truth has a way of popping back up. Bush owned up to his end of the mess up. Blanco played the blame game and now the veil is lifted for all to see. I hope the citizens of Louisiana vote for quality officials rather than the Klunks they have right now.

Can anyone point me to a good timeline of Katrina and the levee breaks?

Google brings up lots of them, all of which are laced with snide anti-Bush remarks and generally ambiguous and leaving out significant events... The time of the levee break is variously reported from 6 hours before the storm hit Lake Ponchatrain, to 24 hours later. Can anyone pinpoint when it became known that the levee(s) broke? And if the levee broke Monday morning, why did the MSM report on the evening newscasts that New Orleans had come through without serious damage? I watched Aaron Brown with my own eyes pronounce that N.O. had dodged the bullet.

You: "When was that? I heard him accept responsibility. Those who understand the English language know that there is a very large difference between the two."

From CNN (emphasis is mine):

"Katrina exposed serious problems in our response capability at all levels of government and to the extent the federal government didn't fully do its job right, I take responsibility," Bush said during a news conference. Source: CNN!

I know if a truly objective commission investigates these events then President Bush will come out smelling like a rose while Naggin', BlanKo, Witt, LA Homeland Security, and LA government will stink. Please do note the "to the exent" language. Stategery. ;-)
