BAYONNE (NEW JERSEY), September 16 (Itar-Tass) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin laid a stone into the foundation of a monument to the victims of September 11, 2001 terrorist acts. The ceremony took place on Thursday in the town of Bayonne on the Hudson River.
The stone bears a sign reading: A gift from the Russian people. President Vladimir Putin. A monument will be erected here devoted to the fight against international terrorism. The work by sculptor Zurab Tsereteli.
The 30-meter high monument will be erected in front of lower Manhattan where the World Trade Center twins stood. The broken bronze pylon symbolizes one of the attacked towers. Water will flow down the crack and an 11-meter crystal tear will be installed inside. The granite foundation will carry the names of over 3000 victims of the terrorist acts in the United States.
Over 200 Russia-made elements of the monument have been already shipped to the United States from St. Petersburg. The monument will weigh over 150 tons. The smallest cube weighs 29 tons and the biggest twice as much.
The monument is planned to be unveiled on September 11, 2006.
Where in Bayonne are they going to put the Memorial?
I have never heard of this. Thank you for the post.
It's the first I heard about it and then I caught a clip on the news.
Putin is scheduled to do an interview on Fox News Sunday. I do not have the time or place, but if anyone finds it I would be interested in knowing the time.
"Where in Bayonne are they going to put the Memorial?"
It is on the waterfront at the former Marine Ocean Terminal, which is going to be redeveloped in some snazzy way, no doubt; right now cruise ships are using it.
Bayonne BUMP!
Thank you President Putin and the Russian people. What's truly incredible, and appalling, about this is that the Russians can, without fanfare, come up with a simple and appropriate 9/11 monument, while our own NY libs have tied everything into a hopeless knot trying to produce an anti-American monstrosity.
Ping
I TIVO FN Sunday, but I'm not sure about the time. VPP was just in DC today.
