I just looked on the website, and his comments on the speech haven't been put there yet! Pooh! Now I'll just have to wait longer to hear them!
not "trailers." Manufactured homes.
The idea is that, when we do build new permanent homes, we don't want to repeat the mistakes of building "projects" that are grotesque ghetto's, nor do we want to recreate the awful "shotgun houses" of the slums that were wiped out.
But a reasonable design, well constructed using modern processes, can save us LOTS of money, as well as giving a much better quality of life to the people who will be living in them.
And I agree with those that say we should never again set up concentrated areas of poor people so that "they" are off by themselves, out of site, out of our hair, where we can ignore them. Mixed redevelopment of housing for the poor and new development for the better off, including local (walk to it) services are clearly the way to go.
Think of the structure of Disney's development "Celebration" in Florida, but including housing for folks who used to be sent to "the ghettos" (say 10%).
They won't have a gerrymandered "majority" that will guarantee a special representative to "look after their interests," like the lovely and oh so productive members of the Black Caucus (/sarcasm off) but they will be part of a community of PEOPLE. Not black people. Not white people. Not immigrants or criminals or "the rich" or "the poor." Just people. Just Americans.
And hopefully it will be set up for "sweat equity" for those folks, whether in participating in the work to clean up the mess or in other forms of service, and then they'll be HOME OWNERS, not recipients of a handout.
And the world will change. Again.
Note: There are some very nice proposals for low cost housing built using "manufactured house" techniques. Most are intended for use in the third world and haven't gotten a lot of funding or notice from the MSM. This may be a chance to change that. We spend obscene amounts of money in projects that are supposed to help the "poor." Let's finally do something that will actually HELP make them NOT POOR AND NOT DEPENDENT, not just maintain them in their miserable condition.
Rush actually played the segment from Nightline. Be sure to hear it, you won't believe the arrogance.
Just went to the website and listened! I can hardly wait till the elections of '06 to see these folks vote R for the first time in their lives! LOL!
