Joint prayer in Gniezno

The market square of the city of Gniezno in the south will witness a joint prayer of Christians, Muslims and Jews in the first meeting of this kind which is part of the 6th Gniezno Congress. The gathering under the headline Gniezno a city of dialogue embraces various meetings, discussions and other events grouping representatives of different cultures and religions.
The congress debates are held under the title Europe of dialogue- to be a Christian in a pluralistic Europe. One of the participants father Tomasz Halik from the Czech republic told Polish Radio that Christianity can be a link between traditional Muslim countries and the secular , liberal world of the west.
Jozef Konopacki from the Muslim Association in Poland underlined that Islam and Christianity derive from the same prophet Abraham and a dialogue between the religions should allow for further understanding of what unites both religions. The joint prayers will be transmitted by Polish radio 1.
Gniezno was an important city in the period of shaping of the Polish statehood and used to be the first capital of Poland. It is closely tied to the beginnings of Christianity in Poland and is here that the remains of St.Adalbert are laid in the city cathedral.
