"On Thursday night President Bush spoke to the nation from my city. I am not a Republican. I did not vote for George W. Bush -- in fact, I worked pretty hard against him in 2000 and 2004. But on Thursday night, after watching him speak from the heart, I could not have been prouder of the president and the plan he outlined to empower those who lost everything and to rebuild the Gulf Coast."

This is nothing more than democrap damage control.
The unfortunate thing is that they are.
You're being tricked into believing she is sincere.
Never trust a "rat" especially when they are trapped.
The interviews with the people in Houston from NOLA, pretty
much puts the spike in the heart of the Democrat beast. The
New Orleans people were praising "GW" for his actions. The dems can't
look like idiots in front of their own people.
I hope you're right. But I suspect these supportive words were only uttered to give her attacks more clout when she later "turns" on him.
She may indeed be sincere.
Bush is showing the 'triangulation' magic of 'compassionate conservatism... It is driving us fiscal conservatives batty, but honest Democrats would have to admit that if Clinton gave the exact same speech they'd be orgasmic over it.
Bush is giving the gulf coast hope, opportunity, and our money. He is doing EVERYTHING POSSIBLE and giving them practically anything they could ask for.
I worry it might be too much budget-wise, but politically I think Bush has turned a potential big negative into a possible political asset. Bush's leadership has been excellent throughout. He never swerved from always trying to do the right thing, and that is to his credit.
I'd also note that the REPUBLICAN RUN STATE OF TEXAS, under Rick Perry, has come out looking like the best state in the union for helping out neighbors. The outpouring of positive reaction from evacuees is amazing. The fact is that 250,000 evacuees came to Texas, 30,000 students got enrolled in our schools; many thousand college students .. the list goes on.
If the message comes across that "REPUBLICANS ARE GOOD PEOPLE" one of the key Democrat talking-points will get washed away.
It's possibly true that the Dems have finally found an issue that they can't get around. I think Blanco and the mayor are only supporting Bush because they hope he'll protect them from criminal prosecution, btw.
But I think Brazile is sincere and some of the others may be, too. At any rate, it wouldn't hurt to treat them that way and see if we can stop the Dem insanity that has divided this country so horribly for years now. I think we should really accept them on the basis of what they are saying.
Not surprising, now that the money levee has broken.
I feel the same way. She has already demonstrated how she really feels.
I agree. You've made some excellent points, and the point about Texas is something I haven't seen before - but it's right on target.
Sorry about the repost--but she sure is being excoriated over at the Kos website! What's the old saying, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend"?
A pile of unregulated Federal money always brings out the hopefulness in a Democrat politician..
You are doing something wrong when Donna Brazile agrees with you. Of course this welfare whore is salivating at the prospect of handouts to the most "needy"!
I think that if you've been brought up a Dem, and everybody around you is a Dem, it's pretty hard to think otherwise. A few very independent black people do, but it's not easy for them. The interesting thing is that a lot of the black people I know here (in Florida) share GOP positions 100%, but they consider themselves Dems and practically faint if anybody points out that their positions really aren't the Dem positions. Maybe Donna Brazile's article will give them something to think about.
For all effects and purposes, Hillary basically threw her under a bus.
Her political career is basically over, and she was screwed again by the Dems in that they basically insulted her when she dropped hints of being interested in the DNC chair.
She is a lefty radical, no doubt about that, but she isn't a clintonite anymore (unless she really has a thing for abuse).
After the way the dems treated her, I'm surprised she still talks to any of them (the few that actually acknowledge her....the very few).
Trust. But verify...
Remember, there are LOTS of ex-liberals and ex-Democrats. There is always hope.
Yep,
She also started several other whispering campaigns against Bush.
Her political career is basically over, Hillary Clinton made her a scapegoat, and the entire democratic party basically crapped on her.
Al Gore and Hillary Clinton both ripped her apart and both (in public) blame her for Gores loss.
She will never work in politics again, and after the DNC thing where she dropped hints she wanted the job, it looks like no one even wants to talk to her.
