And the photo even met the CBS standard for journalism, 'fake but accurate'.
Sometimes Snopes is VERY blatant. Other times, more subtle.
Usually, if there's a political angle, they're leaning leftward.
They do make a good point that if someone on the internet had removed "welcome marines" and added the offending text, how would they know his name and rank?
Your kidding?
Thanks for the link. The ramifications re: the "CNN effect" are quite chilling.

I don't know about you, but if I had 30 years in the business and good access to the White House, I wouldn't be quick to p-ss that away because I thought it might be fun. I know most FReepers don't hold the media in very high regard, but most reporters and photographers are people with a mortgage to pay and kids in school, and they don't want to risk their careers any more than folks in other lines of business want to risk theirs by forging expense reports or doctoring records.
As I said before, photos, like any other information, are as credible as the people who vouch for them. The credentials are pretty strong in this case. I don't get your objection -- it's somehow implausible that someone would use both a pen and a pencil in the same day? I do that nearly every day.
Almost every conference I've ever attended had pads and pencils for the attendees. Bush wanted to dash off a quick note, so he grabbed the closest writing implement and scrap of paper at hand. I don't find that the least bit implausible.
Bottom line -- the president asked his top diplomat whether it would be a breach of protocol to run to the head in the middle of a session. It's a silly story, one that makes some people giggle because some people giggle at any mention of politicians or celebrities having to go tinkle (tee hee hee).
The only thing sillier than the original story is the lengths some folks go to to establish that it's a fake, and the elaborate contortions to "prove" that the president did not, in fact, need to take a leak. Never mind that shortly after the alleged note was allegedly written allegedly by the president, he did in fact briefly leave the room.
Seriously. This story was worth a brief chuckle and maybe a swipe from Leno and Letterman. The desperate efforts to "prove" that it's a fake are why we're still talking about it after four days.
it's hilarious... who cares... and you deleting won't really impact its distribution...

You're welcome! I found that article chilling also. I've kept it, and reread it from time to time. Anything can be faked, even perhaps, so much so, that the Image of the AC, spoken of in the book of Revelation, could be done using this technology?!
Don't be too energetic about singing the praises of FR. Remember that it was Registered who dummied up the Kerry / Fonda photo mentioned later in the article.
Hey, Tia, does that kitty look familiar...?
Except for numbers 6, 9 and the original post, I haven't even posted in the thread until now. Not sure how what I posted comes off as "singing the praises of FR". I didn't really take any stance on that. I just thought Freepers might be interested in the article. And quite a few apparently were.
I realize that. But I didn't want it to come from MY hand.
