Cleveland,Ohio (AHN) - The nominees for the Class of 2006 for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is filled with a lot of hold overs from previous years and virtually ignores a truckload of artists that many critics are shaking their heads over.

J.Geils Band, John Mellencamp, the Patti Smith Group, Chic, Joe Tex,Miles Davis, Cat Stevens, Blondie, the Paul Butterfield Band, the Dave Clark Five and the Sir Douglas Quintet will all have a chance to make it into the hall of fame located in Cleveland.

This year also marks the eighth chance for Black Sabbath, Lynyd Skynyrd gets their seventh chance, and the Sex Pistols and the Stooges all of which are on try number five.

Missing from the nomination list again this year include bands like Rush, Van Halen, Yes, Genesis, ELO, Joan Jett, Def Leppard, Alice Cooper, Heart, Deep Purple, Pat Benatar, and Duran Duran.

Nominees are picked by a 70-member committee of rock 'n' roll historians, journalists and label execs, with ballots then mailed to an international voting body of 700 music industry types for the final decision. The five to seven nominees that receive the most votes will be inducted into the Rock Hall next year.

Pusterfuss -- The Trashmen actually had a minor hit with a follow up called "Bird Dance Beat" that was almost indistinguishable from "Surfin' Bird." Ah, glad to know such talent was not unappreciated south of the border. You know another Minneapolis group from the mid-60s were The Castaways, who did "Liar Liar." That one I liked.

I heard he also lives in a small town, and according to the latest news, will probably die in a small town.

Real estate taxes are a direct cause of farm failures. The local governments raise the property taxes based on the lands value to a developer, not a farmer. When the re-zoning gets passed, the taxes go up.
Farm land should be taxed at agricultural rates.

No Iron Butterfly again this year. Damn !

Yeah, the drum solo alone deserves its own special wing in the HOF. Peanut Butter Conspiracy also shut out again.

I saw Duran Duran back in July, and they put on a h@ll of a show (for a band having been around for 25+ years!)

It was a semi-intimate affair (~3000 people) but the show was dynamite, and they played most of their old catalogue, and it was 80's glam/video rock again!

OK, so I've been a fan for 20 years. So? 8-)

I visited the R&R HOF a few years ago with my teenage daughter. To be honest, I not a real R&R fan - I'm more of a country music fan, but I did have some favorites during my youth and I wanted to see how the HOF would recognize them. The first thing that caught my eye was the LARGE disclaimer over the ticket counters that warned you that there would be images and displays not suitable for younger viewers inside. I don't seem to recall a similar disclaimer at the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Glad there is another DC5 fan out there, Moonmad. I could listen to "Can't You See That She's Mine" anytime. How about "Anyway You Want It" and of course "Glad All Over" and "Catch Us If You Can." Just five guys who liked sports and were out for a good time. The Air Hammer Beat rules!!
