PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (AP) -- A man drove his truck across two active runways at the Palm Springs International Airport on Sunday, broke a lock on a plane door and tried to run over an officer before he was arrested.

Even after the man, dressed only in underwear and a shirt, crashed his truck in the yard of a nearby home and had been shot multiple times by police, he still refused to surrender until a police dog subdued him, police spokesman Sgt. John Booth said.

The suspect, identified as Michael Broderick, was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center, where he was treated for gunshot wounds. His injuries were not life-threatening, Booth said.

Broderick was booked for investigation of attempting to kill an officer. The man underwent drug tests, but the results would not be available for several weeks, Booth said.

Officers tried unsuccessfully to negotiate with Broderick, who kept asking that they kill him, Booth said.

Looks like these officers need more range time.

Heck with it. If he's that stupid, let the dog eat him.

Or .45 caliber weapons.

Pity.

Would have been a decent Darwin (there is still plenty of potential for him though).

That is only about a 120 miles from here. He probably was on Meth.

People on Meth can do really stupid and amazing things. I am told that they are very hard to bring down.

"Looks like these officers need more range time."

Or the stopping power of a 45!

Oh, wait!

Can't do that! Not PC!

Hold yer horses - I've seen CSI. Drug tests only take a couple of minutes.

He probably was on Meth.

That was my thought. Meth, PCP or something even weirder, he was functioning in some alternate universe.

Sounded suicidal. I guess he really wanted them to do it for him. He didn't get his wish.

Well, looks to me like he failed the field sobriety test.

They must be mailing the samples to Easter Island to be analyzed?
