VCU Student Possibly Was Abducted, Police Say
Washington Post ^ | September 19, 2005 | Jamie Stockwell

One day after the car belonging to missing college student Taylor Marie Behl was located, Richmond police said yesterday that they believe the Virginia Commonwealth University freshman might have been abducted.

Behl's 1997 Ford Escort was found Saturday morning in a neighborhood about 1 1/2 miles from the Richmond campus. Its license plates had been replaced with Ohio tags that were reported stolen in Richmond about two months before the Sept. 5 disappearance of Behl.

............No alert was issued when Behl was reported missing because the case did not meet the criteria, police said.

Investigators executed several search warrants Friday, including one at the Vienna house where Behl grew up and at the Richmond home of a 38-year-old photographer who took pictures of Behl last spring and posted them on his Web site. The photos have been removed.

Police have identified no suspects in the case.

Behl was last seen about 10 p.m. Sept. 5 after a late dinner at a cafe. She left her dorm room after she found her roommate with a boyfriend.

Police said she was wearing jeans and a hooded black sweat shirt. She had only her car keys and about $40 in cash, her mother and police said.

If only her car had been a 2005 BMW 735 this story would be on Greta, Larry, and all the other Cable shows every night.

I hope to God she is alive and found soon.

Sadly, that's an unlikely hope..

It has been on all the shows, but there is not the intrigue of the "disappeared on a third world island" angle.

Do you have any more info on the pics and the photographer...any sense of impropriety?

I haven't seen anything else.

The thing that struck me about this story was that she had to leave her room in the middle of the night because her roommate had a boyfriend there.

She would be alive today if things like that weren't accepted.

Apparently, you haven't had your TV on.

"Someone has seen this child," she said. "I would like to hear from them. Anyone with local resources to help locate missing children, I'd be very grateful."

Some of what Pelasara has learned has only increased the anxiety over her daughter's disappearance.

Pelasara was angered to see amateur pictures of her daughter posted on an Internet arts Web site, allegedly taken by a man Behl had met when she first visited Richmond on a college search trip in April.

Pelasara said she had given no one permission to post the photos, which show the clothed, 5-foot-6-inch, 135-pound Behl posing during a sunny day on Belle Isle.

That was Mrs. SubMareener's immediate reaction. Hope the roommate had a good time.

You may be reading it wrong...the roomie and boyfriend could just have been sitting there, watching TV..and Taylor just decided to give them a little space......most likely it was a ramdom act of violence...forensics on the car will tell a lot..

That struck me too. However, from what is posted of the story here it says "She left her dorm room after she found her roommate with a boyfriend." and maybe she chose to leave the dorm room instead of 'had to'.

Someone said this story has been on all the cable stations but your post here is the first I've heard of it. I'm usually a pessimist when it comes to stories like this but I can hold out some hope here. Having a daughter just a few years older does that sometimes.

Sounds like she had a wild, independent, adventurous streak, which sadly may have been her iundoing..she goes off alone in HS to visit schools., meets this 38 y.o. guy, and allows him to take pics of her?

"She would be alive today if things like that weren't accepted."

Well, I sympathize with how you feel, but sadly it is not accurate. Remember that gal Drue Sjodin (spelling?), out in the midwest, the pycho who murdered her grabbed her right off the street in broad daylight leaving her job.

As a mom of one I must say: women are at risk all the time. I hate to sound like some feminist hysteric, but it is the truth.

I know there are different reasons people find trouble, but in this instance she would have been asleep in her bed, if her roommate had been alone.

Apparently, you haven't had your TV on.

Maybe not, but then again it's been on as much as it was during the summer while the missing woman in Aruba story was covered.

I just did a search here using the keyword 'missing' and came up with three other threads about this woman so I'll stick to my original post.

Glamor and intrigue sells newspapers, TV commercials, and bandwidth.

I don't think we're reading it wrong. I've read it that way every time I've read the story. I don't remember when the girl's disappearance first appeared on Freerepublic some time last week.
