The FBI is joining the Bush administration's War on Porn. And it's looking for a few good agents. Early last month, the bureau's Washington Field Office began recruiting for a new anti-obscenity squad. Attached to the job posting was a July 29 Electronic Communication from FBI headquarters to all 56 field offices, describing the initiative as "one of the top priorities" of Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales and, by extension, of "the Director." That would be FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III. Mischievous commentary began propagating around the water coolers at 601 Fourth St. NW and its satellites, where the FBI's second-largest field office concentrates on national security, high-technology crimes and public corruption. The new squad will divert eight agents, a supervisor and assorted support staff to gather evidence against "manufacturers and purveyors" of pornography -- not the kind exploiting children, but the kind that depicts, and is marketed to, consenting adults. "I guess this means we've won the war on terror," said one exasperated FBI agent, speaking on the condition of anonymity because poking fun at headquarters is not regarded as career-enhancing.

When did adult porn become illegal?
"...speaking on the condition of anonymity because poking fun at headquarters is not regarded as career-enhancing."
Why should the FBI be any different from any other hierarchy?
Most thankless government job: Keyboard cleaner for FBI porn squad.
Thats a good question - I almost double checked the date on this story! If they were declaring an all out war on kiddie porn ( but they are not as stated in the story ) I could understand the gusto coming from the FBI office. But this makes no sense at all.
No agents for border security, but let's make sure perverts can't access Jenna Jameson.
Well, it's the WAPO so take any whistleblower comments with a grain of salt. Or maybe a pillar of salt.
Adult porn isn't all fun and games, people. Re Extreme Associates' scumbag operation out in the Valley. Ashcroft was pursuing obscenity convictions against these creeps; so far as I know, they will be convicted, and will more than deserve it.
Yech. I've got to go, so can't follow up this evening; but if anyone's interested, Salon did an article on one of Extreme's operators, Janet Romano. Do a search for her 'screen name', Lizzie Borden, and bring a barf bag.
They must be really hard up for cases. I'd say they needed a good spanking.
I only get the 19th century axe murderess.
I expect to see some nice, hard, long.... prison sentences meted out here!
...and then all charges were dismissed by the District Court back in January. DOJ is, as far as I know, appealing that dismissal, but by the time it gets back to a trial court, Alberto will be looking for a new job anyway.
Agent Johnson is on the case...
Gotta throw a bone to the amen corner (as if the R's could lose their vote).
He said "hard!"
I think as Republicans we should hold our hands and support women like this.
search under ' Janet Romano ' I just did - piles of articles.
