And they'll probably also say that we're being punished for electing Bush. They are too blind to realize that the truth is quite the opposite, that God has blessed us by having a man like GWB in charge during these trying times, rather than the alternatives.
Now I have already whined once today about having to uet again tax my brain by having to learn MORE geography -- this time the State of Texas -- just after I have gotten comfortable with Louisiana.
What the heck is The Woodlands?
Assuming his folks can't get themselves out, which they should be able to do. OTOH, they may be near San Antonio, and should be fine if they stay away from the myriad low water crossings. (Many San Antonio streets don't bother with culverts or bridges, they just let the water flow over the road, and it can be deceptively deep. They have no storm sewers to speak of, and very few storm drains.
You won't get an argument from me about that.
Manufactured homes are one things - mobile homes (pc for trailer) are an entirely different story...particularly in areas prone to extreme weather situations.
It appears from the WU map of various forecasts that they are all agreeing on landfall well south of Houston/Galveston and that a Louisiana landfall is now off the table. UKMET did the best job of forecasting Katrina. They have Rita running up the gut of Texas.
Or course, once it makes landfall, it is anyone's guess and it's still too early for my tastes so say where it will hit with any certainty. It's got approximately four more days and a lot can change in that much time.
But, for now, all but the unreliable NOGAPS seem to have it coming ashore down around Freeport. That means the Houston area gets the "dirty side" but will likely be spared the full frontal attack of the winds and surge.
You're right - I had some really freaky dreams last week about roofs lifting off, flooding, etc.........
We don't want some socialist neo-Nazis kissing our grits, grits is too goo to waste that way. They can however kiss our Texas Tushes.
ENOUGH
We actually considered buying one in Florida for a summer home, glad we didn't. There has been one hurricane after antother since we were looking into it.
Speaking of development, we need one of our brilliant scientists to come up with a way to dissipate hurricanes!
Prayers up.
You husband and his fellow USACE folks remain in my prayers..........God Bless them for the work they do.
So who was that reporter who asked Gen Honore why this will work this time and didn't work last time? Loved Gen Honore's response..."You are stuck on stupid!"
OoAh!
Let'em - I am totally over that kind of crapola.......because they won't look in the mirror and say the same thing about electing people like Blanco, Nagin, and Landrieu.
I participate in a few blogs run in and (supposedly) about Delaware and I have been on them about that. The koolaid drinkers who refuse to acknowelege there were failures everywhere are driving me nuts. I have never saisd there were problems at the Federal level, but they REFUSE to see anything beyond their idea that I'm a Bush supporter and will only bash the democrats - it has actually become rather comical because, in typical style, they ignore facts.
ROFLMSS!!!!!!! Well I ain't in Texas so I can't say that - so I said what I could without getting banned :)
We were looking into a manufacturered home when we were selling our place in Delaware - actually found one that was practically my dream house, all done to my specs but finding a piece of land, with a well and septic made it out of thequestion.
We're perfectly happy with our 1945 little farmhouse. Flood insurance was not a requirement, but wind insurance is.
Thank you Gabz... He has 35 years in with USACE. In 1993 he was on flood duty for 60 days in the St. Louis District. I expect him to be in MS and then possibly LA for 60+ days, then he may come home for a break and then return for another 30 or 60 days. It will be a very long time before MS and LA are back to normal.
He has only been gone since Monday and I am already missing him badly but I know other people are needing him right now.
I bet your 1945 farmhouse can withstand some mighty powerful winds, too!! They don't build them like that anymore. You've got a winner!
Need to get to bed, will check in on live thread tomorrow. Nite all.
The Woodlands is a suburb..a large development..It is on the map, between Houston and Conroe, Huntsville is the next town up going N.on I 45.Galveston(S of Houston) is sending evacuees to Huntsville..The traffic is going to be gruesome if we go North and cut over to Waco..and I believe we probably will. We cannot leave early because my SIL is having to fly in from a business trip.
"The Woodlands" is an area that has lots of pine trees..I looked out a very ,very tall pine tree today and hoped that it does not come crashing into the family room if the winds are as strong as some predict.!
