ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (AP) -- A pride of lions has killed and devoured 20 villagers, wounded 10 others and eaten at least 70 cattle in southern Ethiopia in the past week, police said Tuesday.
The attacks have forced at least 1,000 people to flee their homes in Hadia Zone, in the Southern Nation and Nationalities People State, 400 kilometers (250 miles) north of Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa, according to a police statement.

I remember as a kid reading a book about a tiger in India that took over 20 people before a hunter killed it. I always thought it would be a great story to make into a movie.
BTW one of my mentors in college who was a professor of geology, killed a tiger that was a man eater.

It's too bad there wasn't a bunch of Hollywierdo's around marveling and how in balance with nature Ethiopians are.
Those lions could have a little variety in their diet.

ROTFL...but seriously, it must be horrible to worry about being EATEN alive in your own home by a savage beast. They need a big hunter over there, somebody who really knows his way around the woods and duck blinds, like John Kerry.
This is horrible. I didn't think lions would normally attack humans unless provoked. Are the conditions in Ethopia still so bad that the lions have gooten more aggressive for their own survival, or is it that humans and lions have started to encroach on each other's territory, or what?
Lionesses tend to be the hunters. Male lions (those with a pride, at least) usually only fight to protect, not to eat.

The best defense against being eaten by a lion is to chain smoke. The tar permeates the flesh and the lions find it rather distasteful.
