Gov. Blanco's Approval Rating in Free Fall
newsmax.com ^ | Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005 11:55 p.m. EDT

The bottom has fallen out of Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco's poll numbers, with her approval rating tumbling sharply in the wake of the Hurricane Katrina crisis.

While President Bush's approval rating has fallen by two or three points in most polls, Survey USA found that Gov. Blanco's favorability rating has dropped by a whopping nine points among Louisianans, from 50 to 41 percent since the last survey in August.

Gov. Blanco's negative numbers have shot up by an even higher margin - 13 points. In August, 43 percent disapproved of the way she was doing her job. Now, 56 percent give her a thumbs down.

Meanwhile, the same survey found that in Mississippi, which was also devastated by Katrina, Gov. Haley Barbour's approval rating is way up - to 58 percent.

It was 43 percent just four weeks ago - a 15 point improvement for Barbour. Gov. Blanco's sagging poll numbers may be behind her latest effort to deflect blame for mishandling the Katrina crisis.

On Thursday she endorsed Sen. Hillary Clinton's call for an independent commission to investigate the disaster.

In a letter to President Bush Blanco urged:

"I am hopeful that you will join with me and others who have called for an independent commission to investigate this tragedy. . . .

"Only an independent, nonpartisan commission investigation that commands full support from the executive and legislative branches will accomplish what we need - a thorough, comprehensive review which is only concerned with getting to the truth."

No one left to blame only the guilty.

"Only an independent, nonpartisan commission ..."

And in the finest "nonpartisan" tradition of the 911 Commission including Jamie Gorelick, they'll probably want James Lee Witt as a Commission member...

On CNBC this morning, they showed a press conference of her talking where her big directive to the citizens of Louisiana in regards to Hurricane Rita was to write their social security number on their arm with a pen.

I was left speechless.

I agree with you, her approval rating should be at -2. I don't think even her family would want to claim her. I know I wouldn't want anyone that stupd in my family.

I was taken back with her comment. There are other phrases to use to get her point across. Very unprofessional, but you must expect that from the Dims!

Can you imagine the MSM uproar had a Repub made this statement?

"Gov. Blanco's Approval Rating in Free Fall"

While her approval ratings drop like a rock among the people, you can bet the lib dems in Washington and the MSN are celebrating the evil old witch. It's because of her, it's the very problems that she created that the MSN and the lib dems used to trash President Bush and make it look like he was to blame.

It's all too pat if you ask me. I hope they do investigate. Only I wish it was the FBI who did the investigation into whether there was some collusion between Governor Blanco, higher ups in the dem party and the MSN.

Just my thoughts. "As The Waters Rose"

Whoever heard of Governor Blanco of Louisiana before Katrina? I suspect that fewer people knew her than could explain the Theory of Relativity.

It's a little unfair to blame the governor of Louisiana for anything. Nothing was expected of her and she disapointed no one.

Louisiana is a Democrat controlled state, one of the most corrupt in the nation. It was politically correct to fill the governor's post with a woman. Her job was to be a figurehead and not interfere with the powerful behind-the-scenes politicians who really run things.

It is their approval rating that should suffer.

A few days ago, someone posted the approval ratings for all governors...I noticed at that time that Blanco was rated LOWER that Bush...yet all you hear about in the MSM is how Bush's ratings have dropped.

Don't forget that her specialty as Lt Governor, as stated on her website, was TOURISM.

Should we be surprised that as a leader she is more useless than a wet rag?

"It's a little unfair to blame the governor of Louisiana for anything. Nothing was expected of her and she disapointed no one...Her job was to be a figurehead..."

Sorry, Ratikal, she knew the job was dangerous when she accepted it. It's not just posing for pictures and riding Mardi Gras floats. She might actually have to make decisions that affect the lives of her fellow Louisianans, and in her case she failed miserably and people died.

BTW, my little sister lives in Monroe, La. and according to her right now Ms. Blanco would have trouble being elected stable-cleaner trainee...

Love her snakey endorsement of hitlery's idea to head up a commission to look into the response to Katrina.

What a rip.

Ol hilly and her trailer trash cabal, Ira, Johnny, Billy, Harold, Ron, Brucie, etc. are panting for the money that will flow into LA and cannot wait to attempt to continue their immature and nation hurting blame game.

The poverty seemingly 'discovered' in NO was the DEMOCRATS' DIRTY LITTLE SECRET as they have controlled that population like a bunch of DNC slave masters for SIXTY YEARS.

They will do ANYTHING to keep this off the front pages.

(As if the mainstream press would be honorable enough to point this out!)

Hillary has Blanco on the steel threads of her puppeteers fingers....making her jump and fall all over herself, just like she has Landrieu under control.

Almost everything horrific that happens in this nation can be viewed thru a lens that ends up focusing on hill and bill.

Yes they are.

And they will do ANYTHING to keep the rest of America from fully understanding the obvious.

That is is DEMOCRATS, and DEMOCRATS ALONE, who have allowed and kept the poverty and horrific thuggary that was found in those areas for OVER SIXTY YEARS.

It is time for someone courageous in the newsmedia to start asking the HARD QUESTIONS.

Meantime...many poor, white but mostly black people from NO are getting a taste of what life can be like in other parts of our nation...they are seeing with their own eyes and feeling with their own hearts what other Americans are like...and they will return home changed, and angry, knowing how they have been used.

41 percent since the last survey in August.

Any state in which 41% of the population thinks Kathleen Blanco is doing a good job cannot survive.

Gov. Blanc-hole's future is radioactive, as should the Landrieu mafia, Lt. Gov. and Senator among others under Big Daddy Moon. The Admiral Mayor should go back to another cable TV show.

Sad news to inform you of and that is that the dimocrats get away with everything. Always.

Already, goof-off Nagin is being given the royal treatment by the MSM and saying very slowly and "thoughtfully" how he just cannot imagine an official like Brown up on capitol hill trying to defend himself....
