LOS ANGELES -- At some of the largest and most influential Christian churches in the country, the lights dim and congregants watch a sneak preview of a new movie -- about golf.
The Walt Disney Co. is marketing "The Greatest Game Ever Played" to faith-based groups even though the film, about Francis Ouimet's improbable win in the 1913 U.S. Open, isn't overtly religious.

Interesting. Commercials at church services. A little donation to the building fund, and you get to show your movie trailer.
I attended with a friend a commerical movie distributed through church connections, advertised as a way to distribute movies via an alternative route. It was titled "Indigo" or "Indigo Children." It was the product of the guy who gave us "What Dreams May Come" with Robin Williams. It was just horrible. The worst "movie" I've ever seen. Must've had a $10,000 budget.
Hollywood still doesn't "get it," but they've figured a way to use Christians anyway. Maybe this is a step in the right direction.
I remember Michael Medved talking about how much he hated it. I say, if you're going to use a Shakespeare quote in your title...make a good movie! I believe it was based on a Richard Matheson novel too.
With Sleazywood in charge of movies, I would seriously doubt that this is a step in any direction but DOWNWARD, BACKWARD and towards perdition.
Just an opinion.
I highly recommend "The Greatest Game Ever Played." For some unknown reason, it's not a huge success.
