Now that is the kind of sophisticated, hard hitting political analysis I expect from Jimmy Carter. If Ohio had gone the other way, the outcome would have changed. Did Mr. Carter count up those electoral votes all by himself? I've also read that if a bunch of other states had gone "one way or the other," the outcome would have been different too.

I think the best thing I ever read about Jimmy Carter was P.J.O'Rourke's review of Jimmy and Rosalyn's book about making the most of the rest of your life. The review primarily consisted of games O'Rourke invented using the book: "D-U-M dumb" was particularly amusing. The review is reprinted in one of O'Rourke's books.

I was the same. I was in the hospital on election nite. I fell asleep before the votes were tallied. I woke up the next day, saw President elect Carter and thought "cool". A year later, not so cool. We didn't have much to run against him. Ford was such a nothing. But he would have been better then Carter. Reagan truly saved our country.
