Hillary's Supporters Thank ABC for New TV Series By Susan Jones CNSNews.com Senior Editor September 22, 2005
(CNSNews.com) - Hoping that life will imitate art, backers of Hillary Rodham Clinton for president are celebrating ABC's new TV series "Commander in Chief," in which actress Geena Davis plays America's first female president.
"Next Tuesday's series premiere is 'Super Tuesday' for Hillary supporters," said the Bill-for-First-Lady campaign, an Internet-based effort that uses comedy -- and a cross-dressing Bill Clinton look-alike -- to boost Hillary's political fortunes.
"The debate is over: America is ready for a woman commander in chief," said Bill-for-First-Lady.com spokesperson Luke Montgomery. "Geena Davis has our vote, but there's no doubt the real-life winning ticket is Hillary as president with Bill as 'First Lady,'" he added.
Montgomery predicted that "Commander in Chief" will get voters comfortable with the idea of a woman in the Oval Office. "It's just perfect timing, almost as if it had been planned that way," he said.
The Bill-for-First-Lady campaign announced it is planning a "thank you" rally outside ABC's Times Square studio on premiere night, Tuesday, Sept. 27.
Supporters plan to carry signs reading, "In 2008 Hillary will be President," mimicking ads for the TV show, which say, "This fall, a woman will be president."
The rally also will include an appearance by a cross-dressing Bill Clinton -- the next "first lady," Montgomery says.
Montgomery's website says it uses comedy to convey its message, and it features several video "campaign commercials" showing a Bill Clinton stumping for first lady -- dressed in a pink dress, matching heels and a purse.
Janice Rogers Brown for President
The series will probably flop. When that happens, will Hill see it as an omen? No.
Maybe "moderate" Republican Alan Alda wins on the West Wing
It is going to extremely satisfying to see Hillary fail miserably in the primaries in 2008.
Do you really think Larry O'Donnell is going to produce a show were a Republican is President?
I would not count on that just yet.
I think it shows the true promise that America offers to her citizens that a woman can go from being an "easy" Earth girl to being President of the United States.
Margaret Thatcher for President!
Who is starting the dead pool on when this show is cancelled?
It's all just a coincidence.
Actually, Americans aren't ready to embrace another suck-ass Geena Davis vehicle.
Geena Davis hasn't had a very memorable last few years. I am going to be contrarian and say that this show goes the way of most new tv shows: it won't last past the first season.
This came along too late - West Wing had its following and has been running on empty, and now a new president series? I think Americans would rather watch another cheap reality show.
The fix is in.
Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton
You know that a whole gaggle of fat smelly hillary fans are sitting home doing unspeakable things and dreaming the Geena Davis is Hillary.
What an aweful picture I have in my head right now.
So .. do I have this correctly .. these people who were sychophants for Bubba are now going to denegrate him by dressing a look-alike in a dress in order to boost the popularity of his wife ..??
Sick .. these people are very sick!!
The president in the Geena show is supposed to be "independent," and she doesn't trust either party. Un huh. And she appoints a Democrat as her VP.
I don't think that America is ready to see a Republican president on TV.
I want EVERY PENNY spent on this show to be logged as a DIRECT CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTION by ABC.
Davis bombed with her last tv show attempt. In addition I think West Wing has sunk presidential stuff on tv for a while. People get tired of the same stuff. This will more likely than not be more of the same stuff.
Incorrect. Ratings has nothing to do with this show. It will go on no matter if NO one is watching it.
The only people who care are the feminutzis, neutered males, & err amerika listeners who have the audience impact of a flea on an elephant. Nevertheless, Hillary Clinton is a "Clear and Present Danger" to the U.S.A. and need to be continually exposed as the Euro-Socialist that she is.
......almost as if it had been planned that way," he said.
ALMOST!! Who does this chucklehead think he is kidding??? during the summer when my husband & I saw the first trailer for this nonsense, I looked at him and said, "looks like they are trying to get us ready for Nov '08!"
I'll bet the men in suits,(and I mean men, males),at ABC are laughing their @sses off. "Suckered them again, didn't we?"
I haven't seen her in anything I like since "A League of Their Own"
That's my way of thinking. I predict this will be the first new show of the season to be cancelled.
Talk about a dynasty.
Assume the worst and Hillary runs and is elected in 2008 and 2012. That would mean that we will have had Bush or a Clinton as a President or Vice President from 1981 to 2017. That's 36 years folks. Scary thought.
And if Jeb runs in 2016 he could tack 8 more years on to the record and make it a clean 44 years. Yikes.
We just have to hope there is never a Clinton-Bush marriage. That would seal the deal and we would just become a monarchy to save us the effort of going through an election every four years.
I disagree.
A "woman as president" show that finishes in the bottom ten each week will become a focus of much "America isn't ready for a woman president" media self-flagellation and will prove a distraction to Hillary's big-ankled march to the nomination.
It will quickly and quietly be taken for a ride to television's Fort Marcy Park and Geena Davis will be sent to live in France.
Sure. Alan Alda is Larry O'Donnell's idea of the perfect Republican.
I think she pretty much peaked with 'Thelma & Louise.' She is clearly not a A lister or a B lister anymore.
"Commander in Chief" will help Hillary as much as "The Oval Office" and "The American President" helped elect liberal politicans to the presidency.
As usual, this is another Hollywood "circle jerk"
Bush will still be in office when this show is in the dustbin long time.
I so agree. My die hard Bush hating liberal friends have never even watched West Wing. I cant find anyone who has ever watched the show PERIOD.
Make that "West Wing" instead of "The Oval Office"
LOL...dead, you slay me.
Thought about that on the first promo I noticed... about this series..
"They" will USE this vehicle like a rented red headed donkey.. to promote Hillary..
No doubt in my mind..
Correctamundo....it will be moved a few times to "find it's audience", then win a slug of Emmys.
I'll be watching "Rescue Me". PS.....I'm shocked that spell check liked "Correctamundo".
"Incorrect. Ratings has nothing to do with this show. It will go on no matter if NO one is watching it."
Kinda like Err America, huh?
Yes, and the infamous 60 Minutes story on George Bush's reserve duty was just an objective report and was not trying to influence voters right before an election.
Barf alert!!!!
TV never gets it right. For years, they mocked the military as a CF mess on M*A*S*H. The Reagan/Bush Era blew that away. The West Wing wanted us to believe a diminutive Northeastern lib could waltz into the White House and become the second coming of Washington. I guess they weren't paying attention in '88. If you think the conservative base was energized in 2004, wait until Hillary gets the nomination in 2008.
Well Err America has an endless source of capitol from their looting of Children's Charities.
I think that Janice Brown makes a superb judge, but not as President. I would rather a strong man be in charge, we are dealing with elements in the world now that I would only trust a man to thoroughly take care of.
No she won't see it as a sign, because she's obsessed with the Presidency :( yuck!
Rush quoted a poll yesterday saying she was 6th or 7th down the list with about 8%. Doesn't say much for her supporters.
After posting, here's another thought.
"first lady -- dressed in a pink dress, matching heels and a purse."
Wasn't this how Jackie Kennedy was dressed the day that John got shot?
Who is starting the dead pool on when this show is cancelled?
I HOPE it will be cancelled!
