Divine Allah sat on a red plastic chair inside a one-room efficiency apartment in Trenton, trying to explain the need for black militarism in one of New Jersey's poorest cities.
In a little more than a month since opening a Trenton office, Allah, the party's national youth leader, has met with street gangs, held food drives and traveled to the storm-torn Gulf Coast and clashed with police over alleged harassment.
Like its predecessor, the New Black Panthers are no new adversary to law enforcement. The original Oakland-formed Black Panther Party, which died out in the 1970s, rose to fame in the 1960s with armed, televised speeches claiming police brutality. But these are not your father's Panthers: The new generation black revolutionaries does not focus on Communist ideals.
"We deal with more African-centered programs," said Allah, who heads the Trenton office. He said the new party is concentrating its fight on combating homelessness, gang violence and a poor educational system within the black community.
An American flag even flies outside the new Panthers' Trenton office. That's out of respect for the group's landlord, a veteran who Allah says was the only one in the neighborhood willing to rent to them. "That's the one compromise we made because we saw the brother had a heart," he said.
A splinter group of the Nation of Islam, the new party made national headlines in 1998 when then party's founder, Khalid Muhammed, rallied an armed group of new Panthers to Jasper, Texas. The Panthers were prepared for a fight following the murder of James Byrd Jr., a black man killed when three white men dragged him from a truck, decapitating him.
The new organization has 41 chapters around the world, including London and Germany. In New Jersey, the party has its state headquarters in Newark and the new Trenton office.
Allah acknowledges the party's new brand of militarism, which includes anti-Semitic rhetoric and demands that public school systems "stop teaching white supremacy to black children," has the caused it to be denounced as a racist group.
The Southern Poverty Law Center lists the new Panthers as a hate group, placing it in the same category with the Ku Klux Klan. Zachary Chester, president of the NAACP's Trenton chapter, said his organization does not support the group.
Even some members of the original Black Panther Party, including founder Bobby Seale, have publicly criticized the new group. They filed a lawsuit several years ago to stop the new party from using the original group's name.
I wonder how active, if at all, these people are in New Brunswick?
We believe our people should be exempt from ALL TAXATION as long as we are deprived of equal justice under the laws of the land and the overdue reparations debt remains unpaid.

LOL, well, i must say I agree about the part about exemption from taxation, as long as it applies to all of us. :)
I saw Bobby Seale give a speach at Monmouth University a few years ago, pretty interesting, he actually had me with him for about half the speech and then all of a sudden he said, "So then we went and bought hundreds of guns."
His speech went downhill from there.
The Rev Farakhan has been keeping a low profile lately, but i do believe he had some comments on Katrina.

Yea, he said bombs were placed in certain areas to flood the black areas... :)
I guess they think that what the Native Americans got were "reparations"...?
2. We want full employment for our people and we demand the dignity to do for ourselves what we have begged the white man to do for us.
I'm kinda in favor of *this* one myself....
Why don't we just give them New Orleans? Sounds like a good deal to me.
Now now! I've seen you men with your exclusive clubs too!
/humor break
>>>>They sound like the Black Panthers of the 60's. What a joke when they say they aren't focused on Communism!
And if you read the material I clipped from their website, it doesn't sound like they are separate from the Black Panthers of the '60s.
::Shivers!::
Don't you remember what the streets looked like during that (fake)hostage incident a few months ago?
I surfed out Farrakhan's site and this group is listed there.
>>>I guess they think that what the Native Americans got were "reparations"...?
Don't the Native Americans consider themselves Red? If so, than I think they are grouping the Native American's in with them. From there site that I posted in post one, it says, "The Black, the Red and the Brown Nations must be given reparations."
actually I don't. I was at home in Somerset (very close to NB tho) the whole time, monitoring the situation on the internet. Mr sassbox was teaching on Douglass at the time. He drove to work that afternoon on Rt 18, bypassing most of NB. He didn't notice anything odd that afternoon. Was the scene in NB a lot more "interesting" during the hoax than the local media would have us believe?

I had to drive through to pick up my children from school.
The streets were filled with people for blocks.
The fake hostage situation was a block below Livingston Ave.
I drove through to go up by Robert Wood Johnson.
The police from Somerset, Franklin, New Brunswick, North Brunswick and EVEN Edison were there assisting with crowd control all the way up to Hamilton Ave.
I've never seen so many DIFFERENT gang colors!
I was confused about that. I thought different gangs weren't allowed on others 'turfs'.
I was quite unnerving.
I was quite unnerving. = It was quite unnerving.
: )
I will give em a 500 dollar voucher to a community college.

What flag would they fly if not for that "one compromise"?
I bet you will go along with so-called repatriation. Fact is, that's a misnomer. If you've never been patriated to begin with, then there's no way to be repatriated.
If you want a Google GMail account, FReepmail me.
They're going fast!
uhm...em....yeah...uhm...that is correct...but we still love you wives.
My, what thugs we have here.
