I don't agree. This way, he has the new member of the court AND the CJ in one fell swoop.

Having another conservative on the court is a much bigger issue than who the chief justice is.

The fight will be there no matter WHO is nominated, whether to replace Rehnquist or O'Connor.

The spin has already begun. The left is making a huge deal about the next nominee being the O'Conner replacement. This will be their main theme and will be their reasoning WHEN they filibuster. If the next one was the Rehnquist replacement, people would be scratching their heads over this spin.

If the next one was the Rehnquist replacement, people would be scratching their heads over this spin.

The people who might be scratching their heads are already doing it from the silliness of the Roberts confirmation hearings. The rest will just see the Dems carping; those who are amenable to the hype will listen; most will ignore it as they always do.

on Roberts. I don't
think they've accepted him yet.
